There’s difference between high-volume center and high-performing center. Poor performing high volume centers exist. Opposite also true. We can debate in good faith. What we can’t debate is that we can’t execute trials in the US anywhere nearly as well as @MarcBesselink and team.

Is minimally invasive (robot) #Whipple surgery just as safe as open surgery? Today: #DIPLOMA2 RCT in @NEJMEvidence ➡️ evidence.nejm.org/doi/full/1… 288 patients, 14 expert centers, 6 countries 🇳🇱🇮🇹🇩🇪🇧🇪🇪🇸🇸🇪): MIS equally safe as open in experienced centers. With faster recovery, fewer wound complications, less pancreatic fistula, and a shorter hospital stay. @nine_degraaf @AnoukEmmen @Abuhilal9Abu @e_mips @EAHPBA

Never any harm in a second opinion. Patients with potentially resectable tumors should push their surgeon on their experience and outcomes (morbidity rate, leak rate, mortality rate). As surgeons, we should know this information in detail and be able to comfortably share it.
Dr. Allyson Ocean and Dr. Jordan Winter explain why getting a second opinion can be of great benefit for pancreatic cancer patients. bit.ly/4lWCimE

Replying to @etihad
@etihad ⸻ “Utterly disappointed with @etihad — the incompetence and lack of basic customer service is shocking. Zero accountability, endless runaround, and no resolution for business class customers. Definitely not what you’d expect from a so-called world-class airline.”

Hi all, we have funding for two resident doctors- post fy2-st6 to a Hpb medical oncology clinical research fellowship in Birmingham. They would do our clinical trials clinic, a standard of care clinic and have two research days a week. Please let any suitable trainees know.

What does new onset diabetes mean in surgery for pancreatic cancer? ✅It’s unique to PDAC - it’s rare in other neoplastic HPB processes like ampullary or distal CCA. 🧐Its under diagnosed - it must be screened for or it won’t be identified. 🤢It increases the risk of DGE. 😁It reduces the risk of POPF. Do you routinely screen for endocrine dysfunction in your whipples? Do you use it in scores to predict who will develop DGE and POPF? journals.lww.com/aosopen/ful…
