The British Home Office refused to grant a visa to a Palestinian refugee even though she had received a full scholarship to study for a doctorate at the London School of Economics. It claimed a visa would "harm the public interest." No further explanation. middleeasteye.net/news/home-…

Finally a university has the courage to make a stronger statement on genocidal Israeli actions. Way way too late but other universities must follow, and end ties with Israeli companies and universities #BDSMovement #Gaza_Genocide #CeasefireForGazaNOW
We are devastated to hear that former SOAS student Dr Refaat Alareer has been killed in an air strike in the Gaza Strip. Our statement on Refaat's death and the destruction of the higher education sector in Gaza. soas.ac.uk/about/news/statem…

V. happy to have nominated Vicky. She has extensive experience of every level of UCU & is committed to building a democratic union that fights for its members. Over the last 2 years she has consistently had a solid analysis of our disputes & the role of the grassroots.
*best kept secret* I'm running to be the next General Secretary of UCU I’ve spent the last 14 years of my life active in the union & believe I have the experience & understanding to build a stronger UCU that represents the interests of all our members 1/2 vickyblakeucu.uk/2023/11/13/…

This Veterans Day, we must remember the cost of war, especially on our veterans. I am so grateful for the courageous veterans who are calling for a ceasefire to save lives.

As in Sarah Lawrence, the article subtly complains about social consequences for zionists. It's not antisemitism if other Jewish students don't want to hang out with someone if they support land theft, authoritarianism, and massacres of children. That isolation is not bigotry.

5 years of industrial action to #DefendUSS Striking in blizzards & rain Lengthy, painstaking (painful!) negotiations As a former SWG chair & negotiator: members won this through successive ballot mandates & hard hitting action that backed negotiators to the hilt #UnionStrong

"Pausing action and delaying reballots outside proper process leaves members exposed to vindictive management, and risks destroying the confidence we need to continue building our union" Back from AL. Great piece from @zenscara vickyblakeucu.uk/2023/08/13/…

The book aims 'to set out a framework that accounts for both "labour control and labour agency" and is explicitly multi-scalar … a framework that is capable of attending to the myriad aspects of a critical political economy of labour.' onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…

I've lost thousands of pounds in salary over the last few years contributed to winning our pensions back but don't see how it will help win on pay & conditions (4 Fights) w/o maintaining (or escalating) the action. I'm officially working in the US now, but solidarity to you all.
Replying to @zenscara
We are powerful, our strikes & MAB impactful. Staff-student solidarity continues to grow & reminds us *we are our universities*. But we do need an honest discussion about failures to maximise the opportunity & leverage provided by 2 consecutive aggregated pay & conditions ballots
