Here’s what we know:
When they’re finished counting, we are going to have received more votes than my opponent.
And whether we need to work all night, through tomorrow, or for four more weeks, we will do what we need to and bring this home.
There's not being a fan of the Royals (an understandable position), then there's actively celebrating the death of an elderly woman. The second one makes you a very unsavoury person. She was an icon. Undeniably. And as someone who isn’t a royalist, I for one will mourn her loss.
What does quiet quitting look like in practice?
It might be saying no to projects that aren’t part of your job description, leaving work on time, or refusing to answer emails and Slack messages outside of your working hours.
It could be as simple as a mindset shift.

Can we acknowledge how ridiculous it is that startups and even individuals can bankrupt themselves...
... with an AWS bill?
I cannot fathom why Amazon does not do anything meaningful to allow setting e.g. limits on accounts. Why do we need to hear stories like this on repeat?
ALT 8.31am. I got a call.
We ran up a $65,345 AWS bill without realising.
I remember the day vividly.
I got woken up by my phone ringing.
'Hello?'
It was someone from Amazon. Our card on account had been declined.
I knew there was money in the bank, so I said I'd check.
I asked for clarification on the amount.
'$65,345', they said.
My heart sank. Stomach turned. I felt a wave of panic flush over my entire body.
I didn't know what to do, so I said let me look into it, and hung up.
First I called my Co-Founders, told them to sit down, and let them know the situation.
Next, I called our head of engineering at the time, and tried to figure what the hell had happened.
Bollocks to this. In my 20s: I didn’t graduate college until I was 24, and then I worked in a startup where I did a regular 40h week for a few years and then freelanced for a couple of years while taking a master’s degree in musicology part time.
The 8-hour day is a remnant of 19th c. industrialism. The factory ran 24x7 with three shifts. There's zero reason to keep that convention in software. We don't work shifts. Nobody can can do intense creative work for 8 hours straight, day in, day out.
