a fun fact: nearly 40 yrs after his wooden focus helmet, the "father of science fiction" was still at it. he predicted that 1 day we would all be walking around with portable televisions strapped to our faces :)) these were basically the 1960s version of the apple vision pro/meta quest. they featured 2 tiny cathode ray tubes (1 for each eye) & this is the best part: a giant antenna sticking out of the top of your head like a martian. gernsback claimed they would allow you to watch your favorite programs while sunbathing on the beach. in reality, they weighed a ton, were powered by a bulky external battery pack, & looked so ridiculous that even in the experimental 60s, nobody wanted to wear them :)
