Deeply shocking to read this official US statement, which contains absolutely no expression of regret or condolence for the loss of innocent Indian lives. How can a “friend” and strategic partner be so deeply insensitive? Why couldn’t a non-compliant commercial vessel have been stopped using other, non-lethal means? Is it not possible to disable a ship's propulsion or steering without firing missiles targeted to kill civilian crew members? Practically every merchant ship navigating these crucial waters has Indian crew on board. Are they all considered fair game for US missiles now? This approach is unacceptable and I hope @DrSJaishankar had said so to @marcorubio.

Interesting twist. Meenakshi Natarajan's Rajya Sabha nomination was rejected for not disclosing a private complaint. Now, the Hyderabad court has returned that very petition, saying it lacks jurisdiction. The complaint had not even been taken cognisance of, and Meenakshi was a respondent, not an accused. Just got to know this! 1/2 A whole government Ministry is unleashed on me - because I speak against unscientific practices and primitive traditional healthcare that can harm, I communicate scientific information for public and patients alike. This was an official memo released during the Ministry of Ayush meeting on 12-6-2026 fully dedicated towards shutting down my social media presence. Imagine - the people in this meeting were eating biscuits and drinking tea, paid for by the citizens of the country - to decide how to gag and shutdown a citizen doctor who educates people on medical science via social media. Yesterday, my Instagram account was briefly hacked, but I got back control and removed unauthorized access within an hour. The Article 51A(h) of the Indian Constitution outlines the fundamental duty of every citizen to develop a "scientific temper, humanism, and the spirit of inquiry and reform". Added during the 42nd Amendment in 1976, this non-justiciable directive promotes logical reasoning, critical thinking, and rationality. The Ayush system is not scientific, it kills scientific temper, it does not promote the spirit of inquiry, it lacks logical reasoning, has the deadest version of critical thinking and none of its products and practices are rational. The only thing that needs to be shut down, is an unscientific body like Ayush that goes against the Indian Constitution and wastes public tax money... and not me. Also, please look closely at the person at the end, who is copied to, by the Ministry. His name is Vaidya K P Manikandan and he is the owner and founder of CNS Ayurveda Hospital, where children are treated for chronic conditions such as severe mental health disorders, autism and epilepsy (please see an official release from the hospital in the next post). One such victim of his was saved by my team (we reported it: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3629…) and he put a criminal defamation case against me and the authors (for publishing a scientific peer reviewed paper!) which was later "stayed" by the High Court of Kerala. This has nothing to do with service to patients, but everything to do with protecting the business of alternative medicine (especially Ayurveda). These low life complaintants should be ashamed.

As an experiment, I wrote a 450‑word piece on a topic without doing any research or using references (to preserve originality of thought and writing). Two AI detectors still flagged it as significantly AI‑generated. Not to boast, but if you write above average, your work can easily be marked as AI‑generated simply because it appears too perfect to be human. The rhythm and structure that detectors interpret as AI are often just the color and play of language that a lot of us try to bring to our writing. Essentially, some humans write well (and use em/en dashes all the time!)... AI detection is just as prone to error as AI generation.

El Nino has set in, officially. 63% chance of a very-strong El Nino, as per the latest forecast from NOAA (noaa.gov/news-release/el-nin…) So, what does a 'super' El Nino mean for India? Laying out the risks in this @livemint Long Story Key takeaways: 1. A strong El Nino persisting through March next year means the summer of 2027 could get very very hot and dry (see latest NOAA chart). Drinking water shortages in pockets is a strong possibility. 2. There is no perfect correlation between the strength of El Nino and the quantum of monsoon rainfall deficit- only in 3 out of 6 strong El Nino years since 1951, did the Indian monsoon record a deficit of 10% or more (see chart1)- so all is not bleak yet 4. Distribution of monsoon rainfall will be critical for Kharif crops- but resilience of Indian agriculture to deficit rains has improved greatly over the past few decades (see chart2)- but be ready to pay more for vegetables, cooking oils etc 5. Keep a close watch on Indian Ocean Dipole, currently in a neutral state, which can offset some of the negative impacts of a very strong El Nino 6. At least seven people have been killed and dozens injured in Pakistan-administered Kashmir. An outlawed group, the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) clashed with police after the Supreme Court ruled that 12 legislative seats for Kashmiri refugees are constitutionally protected. The seats are controversial because they’re for people who’ve migrated from Indian-controlled Kashmir to other areas of Pakistan. Abolishing the seats was one of the JAAC’s remaining demands after the government accepted 36 of their 38 demands last year. The landmark decision comes ahead of assembly elections next month.
