SCHOLAR'S CODEX - preorders launched! A collection of essays on Souls games written by academics from at least three continents. Each chapter takes its starting point from an item in a Souls game to talk about existentialism, humanity, irony, disempowerment, time and more.
We’re excited to announce Scholar’s Codex – a new anthology where academia explores the games of FromSoftware. Beautifully produced as a premium hardcover and illustrated by acclaimed artist @nicodelort. #darksouls #eldenring #bloodborne #fromsoftware tuneandfairweather.com/produ…

Usually, this would have been another edited collection with Routledge, or a special issue. But we wanted to do something a bit different, to look a bit more outwards. We think that Souls fans are hungry for analysis and interested in the ideas dealt with in the games.

We felt that there was no reason that these chapters couldn't be both short and engaging AND genuine contributions to scholarship. And, with the amazing work of @tuneandfair, @nicodelort and Mark Wynne, a beautiful object, too. We hope you enjoy.

"idea entrepreneur" might be the worst phrase I have ever heard
Academics are idea entrepreneurs. If you just want a job, don't be an entrepreneur.

Sorry, fellow humanists, but we're not winning this one.

the fact that it's shocking to stem guys that humanities people often care a lot about very specific wording and understand that how you say something is often just as important as what you say probably explains why most of the ai generated research papers are stem ones lol

historian somehow number two on this list, unlike other academic professions. they think the job of historian is just regurgitate memorized facts all crawlable on web sources or something
Here top 40 professions that will be replaced by AI first and the last, published by Microsoft

There have been many already written.
There is be a thesis to be written on the autocannibalism of pop culture. The evolution of pop culture from “new things based on old things” (“Star Wars”) to “new takes on old things” (Tim Burton’s “Batman”) to “new versions of old things that look just like the old things.”

Grok 4 feels like Artificial General Intelligence to me. It is clearly not just constructing statistically likely connections, but is drawing fairly deep insights on problems it hasn’t seen before, in ways I haven’t seen elsewhere. Here’s an example: grok.com/share/bGVnYWN5_b97c…
