What a lovely tribute from one decent politician to another. I will be sad to see @patsymcglone retire as he has always been a voice of reason and calming influence, but I wish him a long and happy retirement.
As @patsymcglone steps down after decades of service to his community, Northern Ireland politics loses one of its genuine gentlemen. While many of us talk about friendships that exist beyond the Chamber, Patsy is one of the few who can wear that honour with pride and without fear of contradiction. A detail-oriented politician with an inquisitive mind, sound judgement, and a personality it would be impossible not to like, he has earned respect across political divides. I genuinely will miss Patsy. He represents the very best of public service, the very best of politics, and the very best in us. Apart from not being a Unionist of course, nobody's perfect 😛 Wishing him every happiness in the years ahead. Go n-éirí an bóthar leat agus gach sonas ort sa todhchaí.

This is so true
Replying to @naomi_long
Until the Executive genuinely tackles financial waste, the cost of division here & revenue raising I wouldn't give them another penny. And because we elect DUP & SF as the two biggest parties - knowing they thrive on division - it's our own fault we are in this mess.

Last week @ClaireHanna & I visited the Ardoyne Association where we met Elaine Burns, Terry Goldsmith & Dr Michael Ligget. Their work, ambition and engagement with the local community is inspiring. There are historic and present challenges facing people across Belfast which organisations like the Ardoyne Association are meeting head on.

It's a joke. Maybe we should fight to get an independent body to suggest pay rise rates for nurses, teachers, etc
Let the record show: the MLA pay rise worth £14,000 - a whopping 27% - could have been stopped by MLAs. This is money that could have been given to households currently struggling to heat their homes. MLAs enabled this money grab, and no amount of doublespeak can hide that fact.

Good to see coverage of the motion I brought to Council calling for financial support for local artists - we need to keep pushing! Belfast’s artists, musicians and creatives shape how our city is seen and felt across the world - but too many are still struggling to make a living from their work. That is why I proposed that the Executive introduce a Basic Income for Artists scheme, modelled on the programme in the South, giving artists the stability and security to keep creating. The motion has now passed and Council will write to the Executive pressing for action. We need to keep backing the people who give this city its voice. I’ll keep fighting for real support for the arts.

If we really want to support the arts - we need to do it properly by backing people and backing potential. Proud to see my motion pass at Belfast City Council calling on the Executive to introduce a Basic Income for Artists scheme. Its over to them now to respond.

If you know anyone who could do with help at Christmas let Paul at foodstock know
On Christmas Eve, we will be out delivering hundreds of free cooked Christmas dinners again this year throughout communities in Belfast. If you know someone on their own, an elderly or vulnerable neighbour or family member that would benefit from a Christmas dinner; please message / email me and our team at Foodstock will deliver to their door. 👇 📧 Paul.Doherty@FoodstockCharity.com 📱07794304259 This is what community is all about - looking out for one another. We couldn't do this without the incredible generosity of Lily's Kitchen and Bar who have kindly offered to cook these meals for Foodstock for free. Thank you! #Community

Well done @CarlJWhyte
Great news! Walkers accessing Cave Hill via the Adventure Playground entrance will soon have their own path & no longer be forced to share with cars. A new nature trail is also being added. I worked with officials to deliver this £81,000 project & construction started today!

Amazing Paul et al. Great work as usual
A dream became reality today... Our thanks to Carl Frampton for helping us officially launch the Foodstock Education & Empowerment Centre in Belfast. This will be a place where children walk through the door and feel community all around them - and leave feeling inspired. Thank you to everyone who worked with us to make this dream possible. 🤝 #Community

Here's what Gordon Lyons' social housing announcement means: 1. A drop from 52.5% to 42.5% for schemes in Belfast - that's a 19% drop in Dept @CommunitiesNI share. 2. DFC budget ⏫this year from £1096m to £1128m so there is money, social housing just isn't a priority. 1/3

🔥HONEST TRUTH: Lord Harper calls on Peers to be honest: this Bill IS about legalising assisted suicide - it amends the Suicide Act. He tells supporters to “reflect” on what they are wishing to do if they find this truthful language uncomfortable.
