The AP Reading begins today. More than 36,000 educators — AP teachers and college faculty from across the country and around the world — will score the free-response work of millions of students who took AP Exams in May. AP Readers will evaluate more than 25 million essays and free response questions. Teachers who serve as AP Readers consistently describe it as among the most valuable professional learning experiences of their careers — and I believe them. The AP Readings take place over the course of a month, with a different group of subjects scored each week. In the span of a week, Readers fine tune their judgement of student work in ways that enhance their classroom practice, gain insight into how students think and write across the country, and learn alongside colleagues who teach the same content in a hundred different ways. To every Reader — whether this is your first AP Reading or your 20th — thank you. The students whose work lands on your table are fortunate to have someone who cares this much. The work you do this week matters more than you know.

AI has taught me something profound recently. At its core, a large language model is trained to predict what comes next. The better it becomes at predicting the next token, the better the output. It made me realize something about life. Your ability to accurately anticipate what happens next has an enormous impact on the output of your life. The best investors are often great predictors. The best entrepreneurs are often great predictors. The best leaders are often great predictors. They see consequences, opportunities, and obstacles before others do. Research in psychology has consistently shown that delayed gratification and future-oriented thinking are strongly associated with better outcomes across wealth, health, education, and relationships. In many ways, wisdom is the ability to see where today's decisions lead tomorrow. And this is where the Gospel becomes so powerful. The Bible is not merely a collection of spiritual truths. It is also the most reliable source of predictive wisdom ever encountered. Forgiveness predicts freedom. Generosity predicts abundance. Humility predicts influence. Integrity predicts trust. Obedience predicts blessing. The world calls these faith principles. But over time, I've come to see them as God's description of how reality actually works. The better we understand His Word, the better we understand where our choices lead. And that changes everything.

I mean, even the Pope gets it. While AI might be able to replicate some human functionality, it cannot replicate our humanity.
