What I admire most about family physicians is that every day, in towns all across this country, they stand by their patients. For decades, family physicians have answered the call for their patients and the communities they serve. And for more than 75 years, the @AAFP has been there to support them at every step. Over the past several weeks, I have had the privilege of speaking with hundreds of family physicians. These conversations have been invaluable and deeply affirming. It is clear that family physicians trust the AAFP to have a strong voice in the national health care dialogue. Despite division in the world around us, this is what I know to be true: ▪️ The path to better health is more easily traveled with a continuous relationship with a family physician. ▪️ Navigating illness is easier with a trusted family physician by our side. ▪️ A better health care system begins with continuous and comprehensive family medicine and investment in primary care. ▪️ We have a responsibility to make sure that investments are made to support the patients and communities family physicians care for. ▪️ If the American Academy of Family Physicians is not at the table, family medicine's voice isn't represented. 👉 Watch this video to hear more on why family medicine matters, and how the AAFP continues to advocate for our shared values. aafp.org/news/blogs/aafp-voi…

Leaders from @aafp are on Capitol Hill today advocating for permanent reauthorization of the #THCGME program, which helps address our workforce shortage by training the next generation of primary care physicians. The THCGME program not only trains family physicians but meets an important need of providing access to care in underserved communities. Lack of stable funding puts this program in jeopardy. bit.ly/3Z6DISc

The CDC estimates that more than 370,000 people have been hospitalized with flu this season and an estimated 16,000 people have died from influenza. Of those hospitalized, the CDC estimates that 60% to 70% of those hospitalized had not been vaccinated. Consider that each hospitalization conservatively costs $10,000 - the total cost of those 370,000 hospitalizations is approximately $3.7 billion. However, a single, low-cost flu vaccine could not only prevent illness but also save billions of dollars. It is not too late to get your flu shot! The @aafp has extensive resources on vaccines, including the flu vaccine at the resource page below. aafp.org/family-physician/pa…

The @aafp understands that the most important advocates for family medicine are family physicians. This is why we have launched a new program that makes it easier for you to advocate for family medicine and your patients. The Advocacy Ambassadors program complements the AAFP’s formal lobbying efforts to advance the specialty of family medicine, strengthen physicians’ collective influence, provide solutions to enhance the patient care you provide, and capitalize on the relationships AAFP members have with senators and representatives at the federal level. AAFP Advocacy Ambassadors gain access to helpful training modules and resources to grow confidence and expertise in engaging with lawmakers to shape the future of family medicine. The future of family medicine will be shaped by our elected officials and their perspectives on key health policy issues need to be shaped by family physicians. Join the Advocacy Ambassador program and let's build a better system. aafp.org/advocacy/ambassador…
