Mr. Cale, if this means what I think it means, then I think I speak for all of us out there when I say thank you and fuck the haters

Never pre-ordered any Criterion blurays because it would be too much of a pain to get to Australia, but I might have to cave for the Leos Carax boxset.

There’s something magical about this album. It manages to be simultaneously bouncy and melancholic. Feels like a text about being a homesick expat stuck ruminating on the past because it feels like “home”. I could just put it on repeat and be content.
Paris 1919 is all about ghosts - even the title track's bridge sounds beyond ethereal - and the album's centrepiece is Baroque n' Roll at its absolute finest. Those who know, know, but the song, the album and John Cale himself all deserve iconic status of the highest order.

Thinking of how they filmed a bunch of scene for the first movie with Rik Mayall as this character but couldn’t use any of the footage because all the actors kept breaking character and laughing. Honestly, why wouldn’t they expect that to happen with Rik Mayall?

Things I love about this clip 1. Basil Watchfair and Sal Commotion based on photos of HP Lovecraft and Audrey Hepburn 2. Doon Mackichan is Kay Tightneck 3. The dropped-in audio for Iqbal Achieve 4. The continuity of Sookie Houseboat 5. Walken-esque vocal fry on “Sal Commotion”

For me, apex 'late style' cinema is de Gaulle's former personal chef, Jacques Pépin, becoming a YouTuber at age 84, uploading single take meditations on how to peel a carrot or slice an apple. No lighting. No mics. Just a benevolent maestro chopping his billionth onion for us.

I’ve barely seen anything this year and I don’t even hate any of these. Give me some 2026 films to play catchup

Krzysztof Kieƛlowski's CAMERA BUFF (1979) is the definitive masterpiece of this genre.
The Fabelmans is the best movie about movies ever made because its central thesis is that movies will ruin your life and the lives of those around you but what are you gonna do? not do movies?

RIP. I don’t know how he did it, but he managed to make his paintings feel bare and so rich at the same time. You know you’re doing something right if Scorsese cites you as an inspiration.

Got a cold and my fevers so bad I kept trying to think about Tarzan and my brain was autocorrecting it to Telstra and now I legitimately can’t remember which is which anymore

imagine there was a 5th Beatle who couldn’t play an instrument, had a worse voice than the others, didn’t write any of the music, tried to dissuade the band from making Revolver, purposefully sabotaged Sgt. Pepper from ever being finished, was a rapist, and they couldn’t fire him

it would be funny if one of these movies was just like randomly a crime thriller. Ringo has to kill a man.
