Our latest paper: "Evolution of genome fragility enables microbial division of labor" has been published in @MolSystBiol. A great team effort with @RenskeVroomans, @bramvandijk88, @roeland_merks and Danny Rozen. 🧵

🔬 Exciting new resource for #protists lovers! 🌍🧬🦠 We are obsessed with trying to get the unknown lineages closely related to animals. Very obsessed! So, we created the eKOI database to expand the power of metabarcoding to COI, with a special focus on protists & integrated in PR2. Lead @ruben_miguens with the collaboration of @beaplab_ibe@fonamental & Vaulot.

Marchantia liverworts reproduce in two ways: gemmae are clones, spores are from sex.
@DavidJHoey found a switch from vegetative to sexual reproduction that can respond to environmental cues.
Marchantia thus strikes a reproductive decision depending on a conducive environment.⬇️
New preprint up! We sequenced hundreds of samples from across one of Earth's oldest living organisms - the Pando aspen clone - to understand how mutations accumulate and spread in long-lived clonal organisms. Our results were…surprising. 1/30
Did you know there are more than bilayer #membranes in nature? Meet the #archaeal monolayer and its surprising mechanical properties! New #preprint! (1/7)
