Congratulations to our latest individual healthcare hero award winner Rebecca George 👏 The person who nominated Rebecca said "After being wheelchair-bound for over 10 years, I am now able to take steps with minimal support. She has never given up on me!" ❤️

Why is recovering from a loss of balance sometimes harder when we overthink it? In our new EEG study (now out in Jneuro!), we show that consciously controlling balance dampens the cortical response to a sudden loss of balance (and balance gets worse)! jneurosci.org/content/44/48/…

We are trying to establish an inpatient vestibular therapy service in our trust. I need examples of how it currently works in other trusts! It would be great to hear re inpatients and outpatients. Please share! @acpivr @AGILECSP

Great to see this topic being shouted about 😍- SUCH an important aspect for longer term functional independence. Often relatively simple changes in thinking & approach= the avoidance of harm to patients (which often plays out/is experienced once they're back in the community) 💪
Replying to @LathaShankar82
@LathaShankar82 & team gave an amazing speech on #AHPsDay2024 about deconditioning & detrimental effects in an acute setting. Promoting #eatdrinkdressmove is everyone's responsibility.

Yes, yes, yes! Really important research recognising the importance of vestibular assessment in older adults. This suggestion was presented to @thecsp at ARC this year by @acpivr and it'd be great to see it put into action.

The vestibular system has a key role in posture and gait. Do you check for vestibular dysfunction in people presenting with falls? #FallsPreventionAwarenessWeek #FPAW2024

The nervous system is incredible. After 4 weeks of elbow flexor training on both arms (3 sessions per week at 75% 1-RM), continuing to train only one arm (at 90% 1-RM) for the next 4 weeks: - Further increased strength of the other (non-trained) elbow flexors by 7.2% - But was not sufficient to stop the loss of muscle size This “cross-education” effect could be leveraged to slow detraining effects (of strength) after short-term training periods when continued training of one limb is not possible. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3880…
