It is morally wrong to use AI detectors when they produce false positives that smear students in ways that hurt them and where they can never prove their innocence.
Do not use them. bloomberg.com/news/features/…
Volume 56 of the Studies in Language Testing series includes a chapter from me and @EdTedC about teachers working in #tleap assessment roles.
Lots of other interesting case studies in the volume, too.

AI as tutor and critic: using tech to personalise education
Artificial intelligence can have practical applications for assessment in higher education, despite the focus on the threats it poses. On #THECampus, here are considerations when using AI to support teaching and generate feedback bit.ly/3MFJ7bH

Love this: @bphillipsonMP speech “Be in no doubt: international students are welcome in the UK. This new government values their contribution – to our universities, to our communities, to our country.” gov.uk/government/speeches/b…
Great workshop from @phillipdawson & Tom Corbin @ #aheconf2024 Does the campaign to drop degree classifications in UK HigherEd start here? ✊️ (Other nuggets of sense, reverse scaffolding and..."It's all bullshit, but people are bullshit too")
And that's a wrap! Thank you to everyone who joined us for #bbcqt this evening, whether in the studio, in the spin room, or via live TV.
As always, a huge thank you to the BBC and UoY colleagues who helped organise the event, bringing politics and democracy right here to campus
Maybe today's big 5pm entertainment is the England match, OR maybe it's room 9 of the fantastic #aheconf2024 where we'll be blathering on about asynch video interviewing & how it can contribute to assessment 🎥
Flipbook @AheConference please see the conference handbook in the form of this flip book. We look forward to seeing lots of you there &if you can’t come along, have a browse& see the calibre of what’s on offer & maybe come next year #AHEconf2024flipbookpdf.net/web/site/a5a…

Was a pleasure to co-organise and run the Online EAP Assessment Literacy in TNE Contexts Conference today. Some fantastic presentations and thought-proking discussions. The need for more dialogue/communication the main takeaway. #TNE#UniRdg_ISLI#EAP
Teaching a class on prompting, and, once again, after a few rounds of prompts, my students find the big AI writing detectors say their AI work is written by humans.
Your AI detection tools are only identifying the bad AI users (and falsely accusing many others). Don’t use them!
Overwhelmed that our paper has hit 100K reads/downloads. Is the most read paper in the Journal of Further and Higher Education @tandfonline
This study is a reminder of the challenge of oral presentations for some students in HE and that assessors should take this into account.
