Floridians using AI deepfakes to āprankā police are already breaking the law. Filing a false report (§817.49) and giving false information to law enforcement (§837.05) donāt have a ābut it was AI-generatedā exception. The technology might be new, but the crime isnāt.
Deep Fake AI videos depicting crimes that never occurred are circulating on social media.
In some of these videos, pranksters approach law enforcement officers to āreportā a crime and show video evidence of that crime ā made by AI.
To be clear: Creating and sharing AI-generated ādeepfakeā videos that depict criminal activity is not a harmless prank. And if you show it to law enforcement, you can be arrested for making a false report.
Using AI to spread misinformation isnāt entertainment. In fact, it can be a crime.
