Essential hardware for heinous times! If you enjoy photography of the national parks, here’s a sleeve I’ve created for your "America the Beautiful" National Parks Pass. Four parks are available: Arches, Glacier, Grand Canyon and Grand Teton.

I've been writing monthly articles for our local paper to share just how incredible our backyard is (locals honestly don't know). This one is about #beavers and how they can bring health back to our San Pedro #river. Please share. We must save this magical place! #NoMining

Parks and Rex! 🏕️ The King has spent time at Shenandoah National Park in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains and Appalachian Highlands.   ⛰️ The Blue Ridge Mountains are among the oldest in the worldand the Appalachian Highlands were, remarkably, once connected to the Scottish Highlands as part of a single mountain chain.   Conservation efforts at Shenandoah include those aimed at preserving the iconic bald eagle, which was at risk of extinction in the mid-1900s. 🦅

When the Bureau of Land Management approved exploratory drilling for a proposed copper mine in Arizona, they said no threatened Mexican spotted owls were in the area. Photo evidence shows otherwise. My latest: insideclimatenews.org/news/2…

Thanks Adelita Grijalva @Rep_Grijalva for your first bill: The Save Oak Flat from Foreign Mining Act. It would stop the destruction of Oak Flat, AZ, an Apache sacred site. At present, Resolution Copper is planning a toxic waste pipeline right over this very canyon in the video.

Unusual fall colors arrived last night at the San Francisco Peaks. The aurora borealis was visible to naked eyes for about 5 mesmerizing minutes. Clouds parted just long enough to catch the peak of the storm. #flagstaff #sanfranciscopeaks #auroraborealis

Marble Viewpoint on the North Rim is now a moonscape. My friend Jason went there recently and sent a few photos, including this shot of a torched pinon pine at the point. I photographed the same tree prior to the Dragon Bravo Fire, years ago. In the distance the moonscape extends down to the Cockscomb and beyond.

Another angle on the burning tree I came upon while walking a trail near Flagstaff. Lightning struck this ponderosa during a summer thunderstorm (I called the Forest Service and they extinguished it). Fires like this are needed for healthy ponderosa forests.

Was hiking a familiar trail near Flagstaff when I came upon a ponderosa that was burning after a lightning strike. I photographed for at least an hour as it calmly burned. I'd contacted the Forest Service and they later came to extinguish it.

This is what a healthy ponderosa forest looks like, since fires help to clear undergrowth and germinate seeds.

Wish I'd rotated the lens just a bit further. Got one of them at least. #azwx #grandcanyon

San Francisco Peaks during one of the rare monsoon storms in the northland this summer. Flagstaff got about 1.4" between June-Sept with the average being near 3".

I'm "anti-American" according to this social media influencer. Makes sense, as I oppose a foreign company's plans to destroy American soil with a massive crater at Oak Flat, AZ. Rio Tinto covets $140 billion in copper, billions of gallons of free desert groundwater...🧵

...and will take the profit overseas. The mining company wants to destroy an Apache ceremonial site at Oak Flat, used by America's original people for centuries, to sell the copper to China. Guess I've got it all wrong.
