Pumped storage hydro is undergoing a resurgence as part of the clean energy transition. To work, they require water, something in short supply in the Southwest where many are being proposed. My latest dives into how one community is pushing back. insideclimatenews.org/news/1…

Forty-one percent of Arizona’s water comes from a source you can’t see 💧🌵 The Arizona Groundwater Explorer (AGEx) is an interactive, web-based tool that allows for visualization of groundwater levels, long-term trends, and changes in groundwater conditions in Arizona. AGEx combines data from the USGS and the Arizona Department of Water Resources (ADWR), allowing users to explore over 1.9 million observations from more than 42,000 wells to visualize how the groundwater landscape has changed. AGEx data are now available through 2025! The dawn of deep-sea mining is closer than ever before - but a close look at the companies seeking U.S. permits reveals thin track records, legal battles and shaky economics. My story on how the Trump-endorsed industry is taking shape: apnews.com/article/trump-dee…

America’s public lands span more than 600 million acres — from national parks and forests to grasslands and seashores. Now, nearly 90 million acres are at risk of development as critics warn of an unprecedented shift in policies under Trump. floodlightnews.org/trump-off…

Few races affect Arizonans' daily lives more than the Corporation Commission seats up for grabs — yet most people don't even know what it does. With energy costs climbing, candidates are hoping that frustration finally gets voters to notice.  arizonaagenda.com/p/the-race…

FWIW a former NextEra vice president is now the deputy secretary at the Interior Department.
My colleagues and I have spent a decade tracking NextEra's sprawling political machine, and how it has used that machine to thwart competitors (including clean ones!), at ratepayers' expense. Essential reading for the NEE/D mega-monopoly merger plans: energyandpolicy.org/nextera-…

Sustained use of the nation’s public lands, from extraction to recreation, cannot be achieved without conservation. That was the policy from a Biden rule on how to incorporate conservation on BLM lands. The Trump administration just rescinded the policy. insideclimatenews.org/news/1…

Someone explain the allure of Joshua Tree to me like I'm 5. Just judging from the photos this would be a C- state park in Utah or Colorado.

Once public lands are taken out of federal ownership, it’s game over. The main threat ofc comes from certain powerful factions in the GOP.
This is what will happen to your national forests the instant they leave federal ownership. Privatization, locked gates, total loss of public access. "Just ask the owner" is a castle built on sand. You need formalized, permanent, public rights to your local forests.
