Yesterday was a great day at the Northern Cultural Education Awards with @EldonHaz proud to be a finalist in the Inspirational Partnership category for work with @TrinityAcadStE
Very excited to visit the new @jejamescycles shop on Eldon Street today. The former YMCA building has been completely transformed with support from the #HSHAZ scheme and a lot of hard work from the new owners and is now open to the public. Well worth a visit! 🚲 #BarnsleyIsBrill

Thomas Newcomen’s (1664-1729) engine (1712) was adopted at many coal mines but only one survives on its original site @DiscoverElsecar . An iron monger and Baptist preacher, he is remembered via many street names including at Doncaster, Hoyland, Hull and London. @HistoryJT
My interest in @DiscoverElsecar began in late 60s when I was a student. In early 1970s I tutored local history classes in Barnsley for WEA and Sheffield University. Summer excursions included tours of Newcomen engine, permission granted by NCB. Always remember/

Happy #LeapDay everyone! Can we join the #MuseumTwitter game of #LeapFrog with this lovely frogged brick? Found during the #NewcomenDig it's only the second one (that we know of) from a small 19th century brickworks near Elsecar. Probably not very good at jumping mind... 🐸

#ArchiveAdventCalendar In December 1941, Mrs Denton - a miner's widow, wrote to the Fitzwilliam Estate to ask about her Christmas coal allowance, given to miners from the Elsecar pits until nationalisation in 1947. #FestiveTraditions@DiscoverElsecar@NCMME
