For eight years, we talked about potential. And about Friday, June 12, 2026, as the moment this USMNT would have to meet. On a near-perfect night at SoFi, they met it, and maybe, just maybe, took U.S. men's soccer into a new era. Column @TheAthletic: nytimes.com/athletic/7356537…

could the U.S. be moving out of "a boy born in the U.S. is named Liam" territory and into "an American household has seven people or more" territory? these are the important questions

Nice charts this morning from @EmilyGiam and @jonahesmith, showing day-to-day hotel prices in World Cup host markets in extreme detail.

How much does a hotel room cost during the World Cup? We tracked the prices at hundreds of hotels in host cities! Rates on game days are ~50% higher than they are at other times. And those prices are falling. Some variation from city to city but the trend is similar everywhere.

very, very happy for Jesse — a good human with brilliant story ideas
Some personal news, as they say: Excited beyond belief to be joining @NOTUSreports as a sports reporter, covering a mash-up of familiar topics for me: the overlap of sports politics, the overlap of college sports Capitol Hill, and ... wait for it ... the Nationals!
