I am honoured and delighted to announce that I will be joining the Department of Biology at McMaster University as an Assistant Professor starting in July 2023! @McMasterU@McMasterScience!
Hudson Bay polar bears are ready to head back to the sea ice & catch up (really just catch) with a few seals. Some cooler temperatures now so that bodes well. Many bears will have depleted their energy stores (using ca. 1 kg/day) so they need to start feeding again soon.
Despite giving talks around the world and publishing 65 peer-reviewed papers, Tamzin Blewett is most proud of getting other people interested in water sustainability, in order to have “a larger impact than just the science I’m producing myself.” buff.ly/40twvwz#top40yeg
New polar bear paper. Largely confirmation of what we thought. Evolution & species divergence is less like a tree & more like a vine: lots of intertwining over time until new species can't produce viable offspring. Polar bears & brown bears haven't been separated long enough yet.
This is a great opportunity for #Arctic ECRs! I'm one of the vice-chairs of the Social & Human working group (SHWG) of the International Arctic Science Committee, so happy to answer any questions - and hope we'll get plenty of great applications to join us as Fellows 👇
The children are always ours, every single one of them, all over the globe; and I am beginning to suspect that whoever is incapable of recognizing this may be incapable of morality.

Hudson Bay polar bears are waiting for sea ice. Churchill is cooling now but freeze-up will be a fair ways off. The bears are using up ca. 1 kg (2 lb) of body mass/day while fasting. Most bears were in good shape this year so it's looking good (if freeze-up comes soon).
Two days ago, a 10-year old Black child was brutally scalded with boiling water by a Quebec woman while he walked by her home. I don’t see people condemning this vile act or those in government making solidarity statements.
Where is the outrage?
