Thank you @CSA2D7 - I just found out a selection of these NFTs, including Every Icon, will be exhibited this spring at Pom Pom Pompidou in Lille, France- as part of the Lille3000 festival - fiestalille3000.com/expositi…
Is there a better feeling for NFT collectors than recognition from the world’s best museums? From the Centre Pompidou’s Poetics of the Immaterial: Jill Magid, Jonas Lund, John F. Simon Jr., and John Gerrard

Thank you for the memories, @Noahbolanowski - putting together the Color Panel v1.0 edition cost around $12,000 in 1999 - about one year’s rent for me - and luckily Sandra Gering sold out the edition in two weeks. Buying 15 laptops to rip apart was risky and fun #artappliance

The Most Institutionally Collected Digital Artwork: 'Color Panel v1.0' (1999) by John F. Simon, Jr. "..a painting that would change continually & never repeat itself..an experiment in dynamic painting.” Collected by SFMoMa, Whitney Museum, Guggenheim Museum, & Brooklyn Museum.

Thanks @Noahbolanowski for a great summary of Art Basel Miami - this booth of Sandra’s in 2002 was a knockout with Leo Villareal, Xavier Veihan, and many others. So happy to have been part of the early digital.

You may have noticed two familiar names in this thread if you are active in the digital art community. 1) John F. Simon Jr. (@Every_Icon) - Whose software work was exhibited in 2002 with Sandra Gering Gallery (picture below from the 2001 catalogue). 2) @sarafitzmaurice - Who spearheaded Art Basel's VIP program, and was the spokesperson for Art Basel Miami Beach from its earliest beginnings.

Thank you to the producer and driving force of this project @C0DYEDIS0N a wonderful experience with @artw__rld @thedinachang @NFTartvandelay_ @NatoThompson - what a great group - the keys to ComplexCity
A year ago today ComplexCity (2000/2023) by @Every_Icon was released via Artwrld and @ArtBlocksEngine 🌆 Each art work has a unique interactivity and cycles from sunset to sunrise in two minute intervals. If you aren't familar with John's artwork I highly suggest watching this artist talk from last year: futurespaces.com/recordings/… I also had the pleasure of interviewing him along Nato Thompson with @RtClick_Save, which is another resource to appreciate John's monumental efforts to update and release this software. Enjoy! rightclicksave.com/article/t…

Digital Art in 2008: The Infinite Possibilities of Code "You can make it anything—it’s anything. There’s no right answer in programming; it’s as creative as drawing, it’s every possibility. That’s the really amazing thing." - John F. Simon Jr. (@Every_Icon) From Pluto Gallery's 2008 Studio Tour (below).

A blast from 16 years ago and that great studio on 39th street in NYC - so much has changed and I am still drawing every day. 😀 Thanks for the thread @Noahbolanowski !

Good Morning AI Art Appreciators 🖤 One of the things that excites me most about AI are illuminated starkly by the work of John F. Simon Jr. For 25 years, the artist has been producing & digitizing his daily drawings - they now form the foundation of his AI model. These long term, 'existing' personal datasets absolutely fascinate & inspire me. Video from a 2008 studio visit from Pluto Gallery, Images from the artists release of SUPERNORMALIZED SKETCHES with EXPANDED.

This is an incredible incomplete list. I am sweating just thinking about how I’m going to have to carve this down to 50 at year end.
There has been a lot of noise lately. I think now is a critical time, so I'd like to remind folks how good tokenized art has been this year by releasing an early edition of the 138 Notable NFTs of 2024. See below, with pleasure:

Thanks to the CSA collection - Every Icon is in the Pompidou, both NFT and classic versions collected. The Whitney has Color Panel v1.0 and Blossoming - both physical art appliances - but not Every Icon. In 1997 not many institutions believed in collecting fully digital art.
Every Icon #193, just added to the CSA Collection. What is there to say that hasn't been said about this iconic work by John F. Simon Jr.? Collected by the Centre Pompidou, and Whitney Museum, and one of the few institutional pieces fully on-chain. A special work of genius, originally made before the blockchain, but made for the blockchain.
