Kenya 🇰🇪: Médecins Sans Frontières / Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has established an Ebola Simulation Centre for healthcare workers in Nairobi, Kenya, to reinforce regional emergency response capacity for the ongoing Ebola disease outbreak in the (DRC).

The European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), is an intergovernmental organization based in Geneva that operates the largest proton accelerator laboratory in the world. Its research scientists not only contributed to the establishment of the world wide web as we know it but continue to engage in cutting edge research and use cases crucial in space, health, software engineering and many other fields. I was delighted to meet Mr. Martin Gastal, @CERN Adviser for the MENA region, in Geneva. We discussed advancing Kenya’s Science & Technology sector by pursuing a formal International Cooperation Agreement (ICA) with CERN. As Africa’s Silicon Savannah, Kenya is ready to partner on high-performance computing, student mobility, and cutting-edge research. Technology and artificial intelligence are rapidly reshaping the global economy, and Kenya is determined to be at the forefront of that transformation. I joined H.E. President @WilliamsRuto and H.E. @alexstubb, President of the Republic of Finland, at the Kenya–Finland Business Forum held at the Nokia Executive Experience Centre in Espoo, bringing together government leaders, investors, innovators and business executives from both countries. President Ruto highlighted Kenya’s emergence as a leading innovation destination, citing the success of M-PESA and the country's commitment to fostering an environment that supports investment, entrepreneurship and technological advancement. The Forum explored opportunities for deeper collaboration in artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, secure connectivity, data centres, fintech, cybersecurity, skills development and other emerging technologies that will drive future growth and competitiveness. The engagement reaffirmed the shared ambition of Kenya and Finland to leverage innovation and technology as catalysts for economic growth, job creation and shared prosperity.

Kenya and the United Kingdom enjoy strong and longstanding relations, collaborating in many sectors including trade, security and defence. Pleased to receive a courtesy call from H.E. Matthew Baugh, the UK High Commissioner to Kenya. I conveyed my sincere appreciation for the support the UK Government extended to us during our recent Nairobi Metropolitan Police Unit benchmarking tour, which provided valuable insights. We also explored ways of deepening our partnership in various areas such as border management, technology exchange, training, and public order.

In Oslo, Norway together with H.E. @EspenBarthEide, Norway’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, I signed two important agreements aimed at deepening cooperation between our two countries. The first, a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Peace Mediation and Conflict Resolution, will enhance knowledge sharing, capacity building and collaboration in advancing peace and stability. The second, a Statement of Intent under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, commits both countries to advancing climate action through innovative market-based approaches that support sustainable development and emissions reduction. The signing ceremony was witnessed by H.E. President @WilliamsRuto and H.E. Jonas Gahr Støre, Prime Minister of Norway, underscoring the growing strength of Kenya–Norway relations and our shared commitment to building a more peaceful and sustainable future.

.@StateDept announced $20 million in funding for Ebola preparedness in Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, and South Sudan; bringing the total for the Ebola response to more than $220 million. The additional funding will support national emergency operations centers; enhance capacities for surveillance, testing, border screening, and infection prevention and control; enable procurement and distribution of critical commodities; and prepare countries to manage potential patients with Ebola disease.
