just posted 2 more "chapters" of my folk-horror 007 spoof archiveofourown.org/works/34… John Barleycorn in The Man With The Thousandth Face ...for upcoming #70YearsOfBond. So: would anyone publish this - parody-protected? - Fleming re-telling for a modern media-literate audience?

NB not my government food package, but at least mildly dystopian if - like me - you'd just finished reading Make Room! Make Room! to see if it has the same ending as Soylent Green

& currently on 4OD or whatever it's called now, probably for another couple of weeks - presumably low-ish budget found-footage scifi with 1-2 tracks of the kind of Fascist Groove Thang that Heaven 17 were warning us about channel4.com/programmes/lola… x.com/mbbcasey/status/164642…

Listened to the latest episode with Lola director, Andrew Legge. Really interesting on his unique debut feature film, not only Irish sci-fi but filmed entirely on 16mm & 35mm film by the actors themselves. Great cast too, and chilling premise. See it now in cinemas. 💚🎥

I'm sure it's been covered, but every planet and spaceship - however small? - appears to have Earth gravity and atmosphere
Give me your best Star Wars nitpicks. No reasonable criticisms or analysis, I'm talking real pedantic here.

Sometimes the value of a 'human touch' is negative. People willing to pay 50% more for Waymo than Lyft, despite longer waiting times.

not really @bestofnextdoor but interesting moral conundrum - should shoplifters have to queue at the tills with everyone else & thus create delays for legitimate customers?

The good thing about nobody reading anymore is it's become really easy to seem intelligent on public transport. I used to have to read Kafka if I wanted to impress people on the bus. Now I can read the back of a Liam Neeson DVD and they're like "Check out the egghead over here".

updating @DamCou, where applicable - I for one welcome etc... "To get the name of your Green Party elected representative, take the 1st name of a character in *Brideshead Revisited* or *Euphoria*; then, add a province in Zimbabwe, a hyphen, & the name of a département in France"
Do the Green Party use a random posh name generator?

my Project Hail Mary headcanon: all the other astrophage-infected exoplanets follow this incremental geo-engineering approach - eg IR-emitting moon/satellite? - because only Earth & Eridani have been captured by a military-industrial obsession with manned spaceflight
This raises the very good question of why not just use astrophage to heat the Earth to make up for the solar shortfall? It's an excellent high-powered infrared lamp, after all.

haven't read Artemis but for some reason I think of Andy Weir's work as more "techno-thriller" than "hard scifi" - from the films, Crichton seems to prefer small-scale drama (unexpected threat overruns high-tech facility) over eg an extrapolated society? x.com/stevenmartini/status/2…

in some ways, Project Hail Mary confirms "any sufficiently workshopped near-future space odyssey is indistinguishable from Arthur C Clarke's", although... why are there more movie adaptations of PKD stories than Clarke, Asimov and Heinlein's *put together*?
