Today, I am honoured to announce that I have been appointed as the National Maternity Advisor to the Government.
This role is deeply personal to me. Before I was a politician, I was - and always will be - a mother. Like far too many women across this country, I know what it feels like to come through childbirth carrying both physical and emotional scars. That experience has shaped me, driven me, and strengthened my determination to fight for safer, more compassionate maternity care for every family.

NEW - Nottinghamās maternity review will be published on June 24th 2026. More than 2,500 cases of baby deaths and injuries are part of the review, which has run for almost 4 years. Itās the largest investigation into maternity failings in the history of the NHS. @ITVCentral

I had the honour of being re-elected as Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Maternity today at the AGM.
Following the AGM, I held a meeting about safer staffing levels in maternity services. This is an issue I care deeply about - not just as an MP, but as someone who knows how critical safe, well-staffed maternity care is for positive outcomes for women, babies and families.
We had a constructive and honest discussion about the challenges staff are facing, and the changes needed to ensure every woman receives safe, compassionate care at every stage of pregnancy and beyond.
Thank you to our Secretariat @MidwivesRCM and all those who attended and spoke so openly today. It really is a privilege to be able to continue working together to build on our work over the past year.

It needs to happen as at the minute like we have seen in Nottingham senior leaders leave before they face scrutiny and get new jobs in sometimes in improvement roles and the cycle of bad practice and harm continues!
