Stronger global transshipment guidelines will help keep our oceans safer and keep illegally-caught fish out of the supply chain.
Join us Wednesday for a discussion on this important practice: pew.org/39890R2@FAO
Transferring fish from ship to ship can result in #IUU caught fish entering the supply chain. Later this month, FAO members can improve oversight of #transshipment at the Technical Consultation on transshipment Voluntary Guidelines - Via @pewtrusts: pew.org/3N11S7L
Voluntary guidelines on transshipment must be adaptable to the different types of transshipment and use data that is accessible to all. Read recommendations from the IMCS network, @pewenvironment, @tm_tracking and us in our new joint report: globalfishingwatch.org/impac…

Good news: The new Global Information Exchange System (GIES) from @FAOfish is a huge step forward in the fight to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (#IUU) fishing.
This new system will allow states to share important data in real time: ow.ly/hzfx50HfRwo
Great news: Benin has joined as the 70th Party to the Port State Measures Agreement, which is key in the fight to end #IUUFishing.
When more countries join to bridge the gap, we ensure consistent standards for port controls and keep illegal fish from entering the market. #PSMA
The Agreement on Port State Measures counts now 7⃣0⃣ Parties ❗️
🇧🇯 With the latest addition of #Benin, the Agreement is now embraced by more than half of port States around the 🌍

For the GTA & @AllianceTuna, the Cape Town Agreement is a crucial tool for improving the safety of fishing operations. We encourage the 14 flag states taking steps to ratify CTA, and call on the remaining 18 states to take steps toward ratification.
GTA & @AllianceTuna partners applaud the 5 flag states that have ratified the Cape Town Agreement. Together, our partners are calling on other flag states to ratify the CTA to assure consumers that ending #IUU fishing & improving safety at sea are core priorities.
Five years ago, the world’s largest marine protected area was established in Antarctica’s Ross Sea. And it’s working.
Soon, its success could help pave the way for 3 more in the region. #CCAMLR

The @FCWC_CPCO Secretariat, in partnership with @tm_tracking, @pewtrusts & the Government of Liberia is hosting the Ending Illegal Fishing in Liberia meeting, a 2-day event to discuss the 3 international treaties to ensure port state control, safety and labour compliance at sea.
The meeting aims to inform participants on the international instruments that strengthen maritime governance at regional and national levels: the @FAOfish Agreement on Port State Measures (PSMA), the @IMOHQ Cape Town Agreement (CTA) and the @ilo Work in Fishing Convention (C188).
“It is my fervent hope and expectation that at the end of this session we will come out with a strong Liberia declaration to ratify the CTA and C188 as well as agree on steps to be taken to achieve our common in combatting IUU fishing” - @SeraphinDedi
[..]in most States, responsibility for the implementation of the PSMA, CTA, and C188 is split across multiple agencies. [..] therefore there is need for harmonized port State control and effective interagency cooperation." - @FCWC_CPCO Secretary-General, @SeraphinDedi
