Ban Bikes not Bombs? Pistols not Pedals? All great campaign slogans for Wes We Can....

Case in point: the Prime Minister just said defence is "a number one priority". Growth was meant to the number one priority, is it still? There's not enough money for defence, but today the Government announced ÂŁ4.5 BILLION for walking and cycling. Make choices. Decide. Lead.

Nothing that has happened today is remotely proportionate or reasonable behaviour this far out from a General Election scheduled for 2029. This level of internal game playing risks driving us into a General Election within months, as well as causing months of deep political instability that have real world consequences for the economy and national security. I am, to put it mildly, unimpressed.

.@HackneyAbbott : "In 21010 there was Labour leadership election, & there was the 2 Miliband bothers, Ed Balls, Andy Burnham & there was me, & all of the guys.. at that point they were interchangeable. Now, maybe Andy Burnham is very left wing now, I don't know"

NEW: I'm told Andy Burnham does not plan to say anything publicly about his Labour leadership plans "unless anything kicks off". "He ain't doing the kicking off," says one supporter. The MP adds: "Can't believe Wes is bottling it. If he doesn't go this time, he's done as a political force."

Hate to say I told you so, but I did. 2023: “Unable to deliver, within a couple of years of coming to power Starmer will be hated on every street in Britain.” Wasn’t clairvoyance. Lots of us were pointing at a great big lying blimp in the sky that the media pretended not to see

Literally the mess you got Labour in... Arrogance of this corrupt shower
This was not an easy piece to write. But because of my history in the Labour Party I felt a duty to be honest. We Labour MPs must square up to the truth. These elections were not a normal mid-term drubbing, they were an unequivocal judgement that our actions do not meet the moment. To put the country first, the PM should lead an orderly transition. Senior figures across the party should urgently come together to agree a path forward. thetimes.com/uk/politics/art…

This week MPs voted through a very serious attack on our right to protest. Here are the 23 MPs who voted NO to this dangerous piece of legislation. While it should have been many more, well done to these MPs for actually standing up for one of our key democratic rights.

The war criminal who leads Israel is now trying to undermine the new ceasefire and causing immense suffering in Lebanon with Israel's bombing there. Sanctions helped end apartheid in South Africa. They are needed to force Israel to end its repeated wars across the Middle East.

Still no word from Jeremy Corbyn on Trump's overtures to Putin. Hundreds of abusive replies to my letter from his supporters, yet not a single attempt to articulate his position. Most seem to think he's retired scotsman.com/news/opinion/co…

Blame for Labour’s defeat lies squarely with Keir Starmer and his clique. They put factional interests over having the candidate best placed to win, Andy Burnham. If Labour is to be the “Stop Reform” party, then the leadership must stop treating progressive voters with contempt - and start appealing to them. That means a return to real Labour values - through policies like a Wealth Tax, public ownership of energy and water, and an ethical foreign policy that are all popular with the public. And it means ditching the approach of trying to ape Reform and kicking the left, that has alienated so many people who have voted Labour previously.

Graduate debt is a national scandal. It is breaking a whole generation of young people. It’s time for a serious discussion about cancelling student debt. Instead, we should fund higher education through progressive taxation.

That's very interesting Zarah, but if you've regretted the statement ever since, I'm confused why you said you had no regrets about it in 2022? How are we meant to belive anything you say?
