To see what we really value in society, follow the money. The pandemic has shown us just how much value is created by our carers, our nurses, our bus drivers, our teachers, our doctors, our rubbish collectors, our social workers and more. Now lets reward and recognise this! 💛
At tonight's council meeting we were proud to pass a motion to formally say a huge thank you to key workers for their incredible work throughout coronavirus. We're calling on the Government to give public sector workers the recognition they deserve with a real national pay rise.

Really excellent performance from @vaughangething on Newsnight earlier. Clear, calm and balanced take on the challenges we face and the actions needed to get on top of the virus. The sort of leadership we desperately need in England.

In a pandemic involving a deadly virus when it benefits you directly for someone else to have easy access to testing so that it can be traced, this is possibly the perfect embodiment of why you don’t want the private sector ethos in charge- an unjust and ineffective proposal.

Inequalities in mortality from #COVID19 - the social gradient - are similar to inequalities in mortality from all causes, suggesting that the the general causes of health inequalities as laid out in #Marmot2020 apply to COVID19 plus some extra in more deprived areas.
The mortality rate of deaths involving #COVID19 in the most deprived areas of England was more than double that in the least deprived areas: ▪️ most deprived: 128.3 deaths per 100,000 population ▪️ least deprived: 58.8 deaths per 100,000 population ow.ly/rA1b30qP5UG

“What was toppled on Sunday was not just a statue, but also the historical myopia and wilful amnesia that had enabled Colston’s protectors and defenders to turn a man who had done monstrous things into a secular saint.”
I shared my home with Edward Colston for more than 20 years. Good riddance. theguardian.com/world/2020/j…

He thinks a slave trader who's actions killed thousands of black people was a hero and by chance also likes racist toys. It's almost as if there's a pattern there? metro.co.uk/2020/06/09/edwar… via @MetroUK

👋 Good riddance to bad rubbish #BlackLivesMatter
UPDATE: The statue of slave trader Robert Milligan has now been removed from West India Quay. It’s a sad truth that much of our wealth was derived from the slave trade - but this does not have to be celebrated in our public spaces. #BlackLivesMatter

They're not a lynch mob. He's not real. He's made of bronze. The real Colston died at home 299 years ago, a very old man, unlike the 19,000 Africans who died on the ships of the Royal African company when he was a board member.

What’s striking about this moment is that when you look at the protests it’s black and white, young people, old people, all kinds of people. All saying enough is enough.
