American companies shouldn't be held back by burdensome European Union regulations. In the Turnberry Agreement, the EU committed to addressing non-tariff barriers, including the deforestation rule and laws about LNG. The United States expects those commitments to be met.

Paper products are essential for Americans, and our industry supports businesses and families across the nation. From everyday records to critical information like prescriptions, paper provides a consistent way for Americans to access what they need.
Shoutout to @ForestandPaper for championing the materials that make printed #Rx info possible. Printed #Rx info saves lives, and that starts with the materials to make it happen. Thank you, AF&PA! 🌳🙌 afandpa.org/

AF&PA recently partnered with our member @BillerudNA to bring their team to Capitol Hill to meet with @RepJackBergman to discuss issues shaping their operations in Michigan. Paper mills are vital to American manufacturing and the rural economies they support.

We appreciated @USTradeRep remarks that the U.S. is not driving deforestation during a conversation with @CFR_org. The EU must work with the U.S. to deliver flexibility on EUDR and avoid harm to American paper manufacturers.

Paper products play critical roles in our daily lives. That’s why consistent access to them is important. Essential items like toilet paper, printer paper, cereal boxes and pulp for diapers are manufactured year-round in the U.S.

On Memorial Day, we honor the memory and sacrifice of those who gave their lives for our country. Throughout our history, service members and their families have stayed connected across distance and time—through paper letters, cards and care packages that carried words, hope and love when it mattered most. As we reflect today, we’re reminded of the simple, powerful ways people have always stayed connected.

Paper has been a foundational part of America for 250 years. Built to last, the U.S. paper industry supports daily life, strengthens the American economy, and continues evolving to meet the needs of today and tomorrow.

The EU's Deforestation Regulation (#EUDR) is creating unnecessary barriers for U.S. forest products → afandpa.org/priorities/how-e… U.S. producers estimate that a single shipment of forest products may include thousands of individual plots of land, and a single container can require tens of thousands of geolocation data points—despite America's well-established forest governance and negligible deforestation risk. As the American @ForestandPaper Association notes, these requirements "divert resources away from forest management, innovation, and trade, while creating non-tariff trade barriers that conflict with broader transatlantic trade commitments." The Commission’s simplification review of EUDR did not address core concerns of this regulation: removal of onerous and costly compliance requirements for countries that do not contribute to global deforestation like the United States.

Our industry voluntarily invests to improve paper recycling to ensure it remains strong. Each day in America, about 125,000 tons of paper is recycled! Paper is one of the most successfully recycled materials in the U.S.

In his first term, President Trump asked manufacturers to support the USMCA, and we have been proud to do so every step of the way. We partnered with the president and Congress to drive the USMCA into law and supported the negotiations to deliver a winning deal for the American people. We kept our promises to use the USMCA’s provisions to fortify the American supply chain, power more American jobs and drive more American growth. Now is our chance to double down on behalf of the American people. Let’s preserve the USMCA, strengthen it and lead with it—creating more jobs and expanding production for the United States.

The EU had a clear opportunity to make EUDR workable and to honor its 2025 trade framework commitment to avoid undue harm to U.S. manufacturers. It chose not to. No fixes mean more risk. EUDR must be addressed in any U.S/EU trade commitments. bit.ly/4cZ5N3m

As @USAmbEU said, a deal is a deal. The EU Commission recognized that the U.S. poses negligible risk to global deforestation in August of 2025. They didn’t honor their agreement. EUDR must be addressed in any U.S. trade deal with the EU. bit.ly/4cZ5N3m

The European Union has yet to implement a single part of their trade deal obligations since reaching an agreement last summer. Full compliance will open up greater economic opportunities.

AF&PA testified before @USTradeRep on its Section 301 investigation into structural excess capacity. We asked the Committee for a fact-based review of excess capacity that supports a level playing field for U.S. pulp and paper manufacturing. bit.ly/4u3d8Gu
