Long time Episcopal Priest long time academic librarian. Mostly retired White guy who's learned a lot since coming to pastor a black congregation 8 years ago.
A senile sociopath prevailed in the 2024 presidential election by winning a large majority of the votes of Americans who have not attended college. Here’s why we need to fix our universities.
Lawler —who’s sought to calm the headwinds of Trump’s comments w/ the Haitian population in his NY district— makes quick condemnation of the racist comments from last night’s Trump rally. Republicans see upside to Trump in swing districts like these but this is an example of the other side of that coin; where Trump makes more work for GOP incumbents, not less.
Fascism has been on the rise in the United States as never before over the past eight years. Here is why we spent those eight years mostly writing articles about the dangers of wokeness at American universities.
How do I know? I sat and talked to a fire chief in a tiny town on top of a mountain yesterday and didn’t realize I was on one of the FEMA disaster relief sites. A couple folks with badges; but you could easily go, grab supplies, and leave w/o knowing it’s being supported by FEMA
Opinion | Kamala Harris seems to think she can just inherit the presidency from Biden. But no one should ever just inherit an important job.

Some on the far-right are desperately trying to find ONE case of a migrant eating cats/dogs to "prove" that MIGRANTS (plural) are doing the same - which would be like finding one MAGA person who committed a violent crime to prove all Trump supporters are criminals. 1/2
In her interview with CNN, Vice President Harris says she would appoint a Republican to her Cabinet if she's elected: "I think it’s important to have people at the table when some of the most important decisions are being made that have different views, different experiences."
The majority set up a nearly impossible task, with very few guidelines, that could take months—if not years—to sort through. What Jack Smith did is outmaneuver the Supreme Court majority.

This is a post to thank our members, our readers and our supporters and an update on our annual drive for the TPM Journalism Fund. TPM is that rare independent publication which has avoided the pitfalls of downsizing, retrenching, laying off staff or shuttering entirely.
(11/X) But getting the media to take Trump's dementia seriously is next to impossible. It's not that they bothsides it, it's that they are on 100% on Trump's side on the issue right now. Bothsiding would be a huge improevement.
Inspiration for Democrats @VP and @Tim_Walz on addressing a highly privileged Republican’s sense of entitlement from the last great governor of Texas, Ann Richards:
“He can’t help it. He was born with a silver foot in his mouth.”
"When you compare his resume, shall we, to Trump's running mate, well, some might say it's like a matchup between the varsity team and the JV squad."
— Kamala Harris, who says Tim Walz would be "ready on Day One" as vice president
Some of us came out of the gate trying to correctly characterize Kamala as a bizarre cackling cringe diversity hire who slept her way to the top. Some of our fellow conservatives lectured us for being too mean and “alienating” moderates. Then Democrats proceeded to spend the next week branding JD Vance as a weird pervert creep. Nobody on the Left is acting squeamish about this strategy or finger wagging their own side over it. Therein lies the difference.

We put up with one another, not because we are nice, or right, or even kind, but because all of us alike stand in continual need of God’s mercy even to live

I actually find it pretty surprising they put out this statement. They didn't have to. But this reeks loser energy and fear. You want to debate or you don't. The message is really clear.
OH DEAR! Trump doubling down on chickening out of future debates. Now blaming it on "chaos" on the Democratic ticket for why he won't debate.
Trying to get out of the September debate right out of the gate really helped coalesce the sense that the switch really knocked the ...
Big question I'd like to see big press stop ignoring is why right out the gate yesterday Trump pulled out of the scheduled second debate in September once he realized he'd be debating Kamala.
