Please read this. It's literally been 8 years in the writing. The first wave of tech disruption of democracy 2016-2024 is over. What starts now is something much, much worse: the age of information chaos. 1/ theguardian.com/commentisfre…

Today 35 years ago, the Berlin Wall came crashing down. Walls *can* come down. Between us and among us, physical and psychological. And people can make this happen.

The ‘patriots’ want us to boycott English Heritage because they offer free entry to Refugees - a change they made during the arrival of Ukraine families. So they’re being boycotted by the same people who say ‘Refugees don’t want to learn about Engerrland’?

In Iran, a student harassed by her university’s morality police over her “improper” hijab didn’t back down. She turned her body into a protest, stripping to her underwear and marching through campus—defying a regime that constantly controls women’s bodies. Her act is a powerful reminder of Iranian women’s fight for freedom. Yes we use our bodies like weapons to fight back a regime that kills women for showing their hair. This happened at Tehran’s Science and Research University She has since been arrested by the authorities. Be her voice. #WomanLifeFreedom

Here’s a photo of one of the assassins hired by Islamic ’s regime to kill me in New York — a convicted murderer from New York. He was planning to kill me at Fairfield University, where I was supposed to give a talk about the brave women of Iran. Thanks to @FBI
I am shocked. I just learned from the @FBI that two men were arrested yesterday in a new plot to kill me at Fairfield University, where I was scheduled to give a talk. I also learned that the person assigned to assassinate @realDonaldTrump was also assigned to kill me on U.S. soil. The alleged killers also went in front of my house in Brooklyn. I call on the U.S. government and the future President of the United States to be tough on terror. The Islamic Republic understands only one language: the language of pressure. I came to America to practice my First Amendment right to freedom of speech—I don’t want to die. I want to fight against tyranny, and I deserve to be safe. Thank you to law enforcement for protecting me, but I urge the U.S. government to protect the national security of America.

Libya is introducing a law similar to the Taliban’s, imposing a dress code on women, banning gender mixing in public, and restricting women’s travel without a male guardian. Libya’s interior minister has said that those seeking personal freedom “should go to Europe.”

I love how a country's infrastructure can tell a political story For example, France's high speed train map hints at a very centralised country

It was very fitting to see a portrait of Michael Doyle on the Lambton Banner as part of the new miners banners exhibition @durhamcathedral. Michael was the miner who carved the wonderful wooden nativity scene that is so popular with cathedral visitors every Christmas. (1/4)

A powerful display of solidarity by women in London with her sisters in Afghanistan against Taliban oppression. Covered in blue fabric, each woman has stitched key demands—freedom, human rights, education, work. Silence is complicity 📣 @FCDOGovUK @UN @EUCouncil @Europarl_EN

This morning, the UK Government set out how it will develop its Child Poverty Strategy. Having a long-term strategy to solve poverty is critical. ❗️ But urgent action to help people who face another winter struggling to warm their homes and feed their families is needed too 1/2

This quote from @SheffieldLuke beautifully highlights the complexity of autism. The idea of assigning a "severity grade" doesn’t capture the true experience of being autistic. It’s not about levels, but understanding that the experience of autism is fluid & diverse. #Autism

My friend in Kabul told me she was chatting with her sister while walking home today. She shared a joke - they both laughed. A Talib was passing them, and told them to stop walking. He asked why he was hearing their voices. “It’s illegal for strangers to hear you. Keep quiet.”

Reader, he did not pay his own air fare
"I paid my own air fare" Farage says, when asked about his own visit to the States. Says he has always paid his own travel costs if he is campaigning with Trump. I am very conscious of American electoral law, he tells @TimesRadio
Community note
Nigel Farage did not pay for his own air fare. The flight was paid for by Christopher Harborne, a tech investor based in Thailand who appeared in the Panama papers. This donation appears on the register of interests that all MP's are legally obliged to complete. mirror.co.uk/news/politics/… members.parliament.uk/member/5091/re… offshoreleaks.icij.org/nodes/11004471

Fascinating document related to HE national bargaining has come to light through FoI. It's striking just how much policy relating to industrial action is set by UCEA and enforced on employers through 'expectations' that it will be followed. Full doc: uk-highereducation.neocities…
