Scotland’s wind farms will pay £1 billion to connect to the UK grid. Meanwhile, projects elsewhere in the UK will be paid to connect. Scotland generates the energy. Scots should see the benefit.

The ban on social media for children under 16 is an idea that has merits. But the way it is being done is simply a way to force everyone, including adults, to identify themselves online, creating the most powerful surveillance and censorship architecture in human history.

😂 The UK social media ban will be "enforced at the device level". Everybody will have to upload their passport and face to Google/Apple to be able to use their own phone's internet connection! Will this also apply for tourists visiting the UK? What a dystopian madness.
🚨 NEW: The UK's social media ban for under-16s is set to be enforced at device-level, with Apple and Google forced to verify the age of all users

This is really disturbing. Labour are looking at VPN bans, overnight curfews and introducing total State control of the internet.

It's very clear to me what's going on. Britain isn't banning social media for children to protect them. Britain is banning children from social media because it will essentialy force everyone to show ID to use the internet. It's about control. Not safety.

At the same time Jamaica was a colony, my ancestors were being burned out of their homes, evicted from their land, their language, dress, and way of life destroyed, so if it's alright with you, I won't have ignorant arseholes pontificating on my country's history

🚨UPDATE : Not only may Keir Starmers social media ban be in breach of Article 8 it may now also be in breach of Article 10 of the ECHR. And yes the ECHRs rights extends to children.
🚨 BREAKING : Could Keir Starmer’s under-16 social media ban breach Article 8 of the ECHR? Some people have claimed that the ban will directly breach privacy laws/rights that come from the European Convention on Human Rights.

The social ban on under 16s is the diametric opposite of concern for kids welfare. So many teenagers rely on social media to communicate with their friends in the evenings. To take this away from them is vindictive. If Starmer wants to effectively clean up inappropriate content on social media then he should discuss this with the social media companies rather than punish teenagers from communicating with their friends. Starmer is once again using a virtue smokescreen to try and get what he really wants - a pathway to digital ID on social media - including adult verification. He is being horrendously manipulative here. And how dare he use the safety of children as the bait towards government controlled digital ID. Absolutely shameful.

Today’s announcement isn’t a social media policy. It’s a DATABASE. Your face. Your passport. Your biometrics. Tied to everything you do online. They just needed a reason you wouldn’t argue with. Listen to what Starmer said today. “I will not present it as cost free.” That isn’t honesty. That’s a weapon. You take the words right out of your critic’s mouth before they can speak. You say it first. On your terms. So when they push back they sound like they’re echoing you. Politicians call it inoculation. They only use it when the plan was already done. The man who funded the think tank that lobbied the ministers who wrote today's law stood in front of his own investors in 2024 and told them that citizens will be on their best behaviour because everything is being constantly recorded and reported. That's LARRY ELLISON. Oracle chairman. The man who gave Tony Blair £270 million. There is no version of this where adults stay anonymous. NONE. You cannot verify a child's age without verifying every adult's age. How does a platform know you are not 15? It doesn't. Not until you prove it. Every login. Every platform. FOREVER. The child is not the target. The child is the reason. Larry Ellison. Oracle chairman. The richest man on earth. He gave Tony Blair £270 million. Blair lobbied the ministers who wrote today's law. Those ministers met Ellison's people 29 times in 9 months. Blair's daughter in law was handed £500 million of YOUR money in May to invest in AI. In 2024 Ellison stood in front of his own investors and told them that citizens will be on their best behaviour because everything is being constantly recorded and reported. Not hacked. Not leaked. Not exposed. Said it in public. On the record. Nobody leaked it. He VOLUNTEERED it. This is his system. Blair sold it. Starmer built it. And they just told you it was for your children. In September Starmer stood at a summit and said it out loud. You will not be able to work in the United Kingdom if you do not have digital ID. Nearly 3 million people signed a petition within days. The fourth largest petition in British history. He retreated. Rebranded it. Pretended it was voluntary. Today he came back. This time he brought the children with him. Here is the part that should stop you cold. This law was pushed through using powers that let ministers expand it to cover ANYTHING they want. No vote. No debate. No parliamentary scrutiny. The last time Parliament rejected one of these was 1979. They didn't just build the infrastructure. They made sure NOBODY can ever dismantle it and whoever replaces Starmer inherits every single piece of it.

The UK was already arresting more people for social media posts than any country on Earth, before they decided you need ID just to log in. This law doesn’t protect anyone. It kills anonymity and hands the police state total visibility into your digital life. This is tyranny. Either dissent gets crushed, or the already record-high arrest numbers go vertical.
Starmer is rolling out age verification so the state can censor and surveil everyone. “The children” is the oldest pretext in the authoritarian playbook.

Age verification is a Trojan Horse for censorship. This is what Starmer’s social media restriction is really about. Adults can still access social media through age checks like facial recognition, digital IDs, passports and credit cards. It’s not kid’s safety. It’s control.
