Federal agencies have run on 50 incompatible entity identification systems for years. That's now being addressed.
U.S. financial regulators have finalized the joint rules under the Financial Data Transparency Act (
#FDTA), explicitly mandating the Legal Entity Identifier (
#LEI) as the standard for entity identification.
The path here runs back to the 2011 'Linchpin' paper, in which U.S. regulators first articulated the need for a standardized code to identify legal entities and their relationships. That need is now written into law.
