Best option was to sell the game not just shut down
Today we are sad to announce that Uncharted and Fishing Frenzy will shutdown and cease operations.
Despite our best efforts, we were ultimately unable to prove our thesis on crypto gaming and could not find product-market-business fit. We spent a lot of time in the past year testing multiple directions and audiences, but the results did not give us enough conviction in a viable path forward.
We are deeply thankful for the community and investors who gave us their time and trust, and we are sorry we could not deliver.
Here is what’s happening next:
- Servers will shutdown on June 25th 2am UTC
- USDC packages are no longer available in the game
- FISH token is now spend-only and untradable
- Karma scores are now open sourced for use by other teams and partners: github.com/unchartedgg/karma…
- All USDC from the FISH/USDC LP pool will be redistributed to the community and stakers, based off Karma score (snapshot taken as of 15 Jun)
- All USDC spend since Chapter 3 launch (May 14th) will be refunded (excludes diving)
- All Proof of Distribution rewards will be distributed by Sky Mavis directly to the community, proportional to Karma scores
Once again, we are grateful to everyone who supported us and will be available to answer any questions in our Discord.

You know what, bro? I already tweeted last year that they were pulling an on-chain technical rug. They were constantly dumping absolutely everything into USDC. It felt like an endless wave of $RON sell-offs.
Back then, when I tweeted about it, people were literally DMing me saying, Hey bro, the project is doing well, please stop writing against them. Even if they are dumping RON, $Fish is pumping, and nonsense like that.
Then last week, the same 64 BIT Atari styled "Fish game" launches again, and people got caught right in the middle of it. That's when I found out that the contract funder has already executed multiple rug pulls on other chains. And once again, people started messaging me, saying, "Please don't mess with our livelihood/bread 🤷 @FishingFrenzyCo

Atm, most of the good remaining onchain games are generating $20K - $50K per mo in revenue.
Which is about the same as the average hair salon.
And there are many generating less.
As I've said, these games are "cupcake shop businesses" in the best of times, which are usually when you have one or a combo of:
(a) good market conditions
(b) first months of launch (honeymoon period)
(c) chain subsidies (e.g. Blast gold)
(d) pre-TGE hype build up phase
but are "unsustainable" in the worst of times.
its hard, and while that's part of the appeal, its important to realize there's basically only 2 paths forward:
(1) be the very first onchain game to achieve some sort of broader, longer term PMF - where you have more and more players & more and more revenue over time, without the assistance of (a - d) described above.
or
(2) realize that an onchain game is a great wedge - a great place to start - but by itself isn't a plausible way of building a big, valuable ecosystem in the long term. In which case, you need to figure out what you build beyond the game.
