When winter (finally) starts to thaw, Newfoundlanders and Labradorians know riding season has arrived. Soon the woods and trails across this province will be humming with the familiar sounds of quads, dirtbikes and other all-terrain vehicles.
Don’t get caught in the cold! Ride for the season we’re in.
Keep an eye out for unstable road and trail conditions. Melting snow, ice and rain runoff can leave the ground soft, uneven or washed out. Deep ruts, mud, hidden holes or standing water can quickly cause a loss of control and increase the risk of a rollover, especially at high speeds.
Always wear a helmet, ride sober and take your time. Make sure someone knows where you’re going and when you’ll be back. Be prepared and pack the essentials: food and water, medications, fire starting materials, communications devices and dry, warm clothes.
Remember: a safe ride today means plenty more good days ahead on the trails!
