In celebration of #NationalDoctorsDay, ASCRS Past President Dr. Sonia Ramamoorthy stepped onto the field at Petco Park to throw the ceremonial first pitch at the San Diego Padres game.
Turns out years of precision in the OR translates pretty well to the pitcher’s mound, too! ⚾

We join the colorectal community in mourning passing of Dr. Angelita Habr-Gama.
A pioneer in colorectal surgery who revolutionized the care of rectal cancer by thinking outside the box. She's an inspiration to surgeons and positively affected the lives of patients worldwide.🕊️
Prof. Angelita Habr-Gama was an absolute titan. It is hard to overstate the profound impact she had on surgical oncology.
Before her pioneering work on the "Watch and Wait" approach, radical, life-altering surgery was the unquestioned standard for rectal cancer. It took immense courage, clinical brilliance, and fierce determination to challenge the established dogma of the time. Because she stood her ground and proved what was possible, countless patients worldwide were spared major surgery and given a vastly better quality of life.
She didn't just change guidelines; she changed the very philosophy of how we approach rectal cancer treatment, blending rigorous science with deep humanity.
As the global colorectal community—including the @TKRCD_ , @ASCRS_1, @escp_tweets@ISUCRS1@ACPGBI, and @PortalSBCP mourns her passing, her legacy remains alive in every multidisciplinary team discussion, every organ-preserving protocol, and every young surgeon inspired by her pathbreaking career.
A truly monumental loss, but an enduring legacy. May she rest in peace.

Rest in peace my dear Professor. ♥️ @PortalSBCP@WomenSurgeons@ASCRS_1@escp_tweets
Very interesting and thorough review from @uchicagosurgery on how the #Microbiome impacts #ColorectalCancer recurrence after surgery.
IMHO this is a must-read for anyone who cares for CRC patients.
In the future, will we be successfully targeted and manipulating the microbiome for the prevention and treatment of colorectal cancer?
