Been noticing this a lot within my own portfolio recently: VCs taking meetings with founders in markets where they’ve already deployed capital. Founders, be careful. Once a fund has already backed a horse in a specific vertical, the incentives change. While some firms may invest in multiple companies in a category, many are simply trying to better understand the competitive landscape around an existing portfolio company. Good chance the meeting is less about funding and more about gathering market intelligence. Know who you’re talking to. Know who they already backed. Be intentional about what information you share.
