The @Twitter we use to know and love is now a long lost memory. 😢 So, I have decided to stop participating on this cesspool of a platform and will move all my activities to BlueSky: bsky.app/profile/genomics-gu…

Just wanna say that @HelenBranswell is absolutely crushing the reporting on every aspect of this Ebola outbreak. @statnews
There's no vaccine to protect against #Ebola #Bundibugyo. But there is a tiny bit of animal data suggesting Ervebo, the Ebola Zaire vaccine, might offer some cross protection & debate within scientific circles & at #WHO over whether to try to see if it might help. statnews.com/2026/05/18/ebol…

A year ago I warned what would happen if the U.S. tore down our disease detection system around the world With Hantavrirus and now a very concerning Ebola outbreak in DR Congo, we are seeing VERY clearly what we’ve lost. And why it matters. Read my @TheAtlantic piece from a year ago outlining what happened, and follow along as I continue to cover these issues in the coming days. theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv…

Incredible work from @FLI_org on articulating a better "pro-human" path for AI, and the steps that various stakeholders can take to help us get there: betterpathfor.ai
We don't have to accept the way AI is going. The biggest companies building AI aren't building it for us. They're building it to replace us. We’ve made a roadmap for how we can build pro-human AI: betterpathfor.ai Let me take you through it…

I simply cannot believe I live in a timeline where journalists helped force the last president out of his reelection campaign for being too old, so the country put an unstable 79 year old who falls asleep constantly in office and none of the same journalists care at all.
Trump appears to be completely asleep at his desk during his mid-morning event

Excited to share our discovery of a new programmable RNA-guided DNA-targeting system hiding inside bacteriophages that predates CRISPR. We call it VIPR (Viral Interference Programmable Repeat), and it uses an entirely new logic to find its targets. Thread link below.

Today we’re releasing “The A.I. Dilemma” – a new talk @aza and I gave on 3/9, a week before GPT4 launched. *Pls share it widely.* It's critical for institutions to understand how the race between AI labs is accelerating the likelihood of catastrophe: youtube.com/watch?v=xoVJKj8l…

This is not a teamster or an Eagles fan. This is our president, in a time of war, a war he got us into just for the grab-ass of it. We are in a semi w/ no brakes and a fool at the wheel.

It is utterly dispiriting how few of these bubbles are reliable sources of information.
These are the Twitter/X accounts with the most engagement so far in 2026. I suppose I had some intuition for how bad it was, but jeez, this is what you get when the ecosystem is broken.

Woah. Newsmax’s legal analyst just said Pete Hegseth and everyone involved in the illegal boat strike should be “prosecuted for a war crime.” They’ve even lost Newsmax on this one.

IMO the most important scientific event this week was the publication of @davidrliu’s new Nature article 🧵👇in which he presented a new and promising Gene Editing modality named PERT - Prime Editing-mediated Readthrough of premature termination codons. This new modality - which uses Prime Editing to converted a regular tRNA gene into a highly optimized suppressor tRNA thus enabling permanent readthrough of premature stop codons, could potentially provide a one-time curative treatment for countless nonsense mutations which are responsible for almost one-third of all human genetic diseases! Here is an excellent lecture by Prof. David Liu - one of the most important scientists and innovators of our lifetime and the person who invented both Base editing and Prime editing - the 2 top leading modalities of Gene Editing, in which he throughly explains this huge scientific breakthrough. $PRME $BEAM

Today in @Nature we report a new prime editing strategy that can rescue a common cause of many genetic diseases in a disease-agnostic manner. This approach converts a redundant endogenous tRNA into an optimized suppressor tRNA, enabling a single prime edit to rescue premature stop codons across different diseases.
