Sun shining at East Lane Bawdsey #Suffolk can make crystals of Selenite sparkle in the blocks of grey London Clay at the foot of the cliff. With care it's possible to select some that are safe to collect. @GeoSuffolk

Top tip! 🌱
Avoid watering grass in dry weather - sprinklers can use as much water in one hour as a family uses in 24 hours. To keep grass looking good, mow less often - long grass stays green, and is a cool refuge for wildlife. More water-saving tips: bit.ly/3IStj3T #summer #nature

Wow! Thank goodness no one was injured. Well done to the amazing emergency response teams from so many different organisations. 🚨
The unexploded bomb in #GreatYarmouth detonated earlier during work to disarm it. Our drone captured the moment. We can confirm that no one was injured. Public safety has been at the heart of our decision making all the way through this operation, which we know has been lengthy.

Landsat 9 passed over Mauna Loa last Friday as the Hawaiian volcano awakened for the first time in 38 years. The satellites allow us to "see" things our own eyes cannot see. Landsat 9 captures the smoke, shows us the red lava, & reveals the thermal heat signature of the volcano.

Wonderful Google Doodle today (and interactive presentation) on the vital work of American geologist Marie Tharp. She co-published the first world map of the ocean floors and helped prove the scientific theory of continental drift: google.co.uk/

Today is my birthday, so here’s one of my favourite dinosaur skeletons. A gorgeous, juvenile Gorgosaurus collected in Alberta, Canada. I got to see it on display @RoyalTyrrell in 2017. 🦖
