Reframing the narrative on
#FGM can feel complex, deeply personal, and at times difficult to navigate.
We understand this because, as a programme, we have been on this journey since 2023 alongside survivors, activists, and movement leaders who continue to challenge harmful and limiting narratives.
Through this process, we have developed resources with survivors of FGM to support front-line activists in understanding why reframing the narrative is both necessary and transformative.
As you engage in this work, know that you are not alone. Naming FGM for what it is:
#ViolenceAgainstChildren,
#ChildAbuse, and a violation of the human rights of girls and women globally, can feel uncomfortable in spaces where narratives have long been shaped by stigma, politics, or external perspectives. Yet, honest and survivor-centered language is essential in advancing justice, accountability, and meaningful change.
We hope these resources offer guidance, reassurance, and solidarity as you continue leading conversations that centre dignity, truth, and the voices of survivors.
