Not Slavic myself, but one of the things I wish to see happen during my lifetime is for Western people to immediately think of Ukraine, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Macedonia and even Belarus or Serbia when they hear the word “Slavic”.
Yes. Many Slavic studies institutes at Western universities are very Russophilic, and portray Russia as the centre of all Slavic culture. I was lucky I studied in Vienna, the Slavic studies institute there was heavily influenced and shaped by Czech and Polish academics.
