I agree totally with you.

I can’t take my kids out today because they have too much homework. This is a regular occurrence on weekends. Nights are also booked around assignments. Homework is a thief of family time.

So true!!
Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you choose to deal with it. No denying the setbacks and frustration, but that’s the gems where growth opportunity stems from. Respond to the 10% with the reframe and watch how it shifts. šŸ™

Teacher: Plans a great hands-on, fun lesson! Student: Slept for 2 hours the night prior because they’re addicted to TikTok Administrator: Comes in and notices uninterested, tired student and comments ā€˜ā€™What do you think you can do for that student to make them more interested?ā€

I totally agree with this. Same for me. At least 10 years teaching before I was totally comfortable with it all. We place to much emphasis at times on complete understanding.

It took me 10 years of teaching calculus to **really** understand calculus. Many ideas in math took decades to understand. Understanding that **understanding** is a luxury item in learning mathematics is alien in K -12 math education.

So true......

A student came to me after seeing another student earn a reward for finally following directions in music class and said, ā€œSometimes it feels like when you’re always good, you need to try a lot harder to get noticed at school.ā€ I will never forget this. And I promise to notice.

Sad but awful truth.
2018, more teachers resigned from the profession than any other year PRIOR. 2019, that number was SURPASSED. 2020, that number AGAIN SURPASSED. 2021, BROKE ALL RECORDS making it the biggest teacher resignation year of all-time. Question: Was anything learned? Answer: No!

Nolan Ryan took 31 no-hitters into the 7th inning during his career. The most amazing thing to the starting pitchers of today is this means he actually got to the 7th inning 31 times.

Maybe instead of ā€œgrading policies,ā€ we should have ā€œlearning policies.ā€ Instead of ā€œthis is how I will grade you,ā€ we establish ā€œthis is how I will support you.ā€ #Project180

You don’t have to grade most things to be a good teacher. The students want you and your energy. They mostly couldn’t care less about your grading policies.

Why Are Teachers So Tired All The Time? 😓 Research shows we make about 1,500 decisions a day! The constant requirement to ā€˜be on’ becomes DRAINING to our brains and bodies. It is called ā€˜Decision Fatigue’. This explains a lot!!

This is so true!!!
Let’s stop using the word ā€œhomeworkā€ & ā€œclass workā€, and instead call it ā€œpracticeā€. Stop categorizing learning activities by the location where it’s supposed to take place, & instead name it for its purpose.

Best of luck to an amazing person who I had the incredible luck to coach at MHS.
Thank you to Dundee-Crown for the amazing memories! To all the students, players, teachers, admin, & our basketball community, it has been a special 9 years that won’t be forgotten. I have accepted a teaching and head coaching position at my alma mater Mundelein High School.
