Election campaigns should be about debating ideas - not fighting over bar charts and conflicting tactical voting advice. People should be able to vote with hope, not to block the party they fear. If we don't want every election to look like Gorton & Denton, we must scrap FPTP.

Whatever the outcome of the Gorton&Denton byelection it looks like the majority of votes cast will be wasted, with the winner potentially winning with as little as 30% The need for proportional representation has never been greater. First Past the Post is broken @MakeVotesMatter

Introduced my little boy to the game Tetris. Found an online version almost identical to the 80s Gameboy original. Complete with the same uber catchy music! Obviously had to have a game or 3 myself too! Feeling VERY nostalgic! #80sChild

Lib Dems literally won more council by-elections than any other party in the UK over 2015. Obviously this will be widely reported in the media (not). But it's a great sign nonetheless.

Congratulations to @LibDems Andy Burton who wins the Surrey seat Hinchley Wood, Claygate and Oxshott from the Conservatives - meaning that the Conservatives lose control of Surrey County Council. Despite election visits from Kemi Badenoch et al Elmbridge have said no to the Conservatives again. 🔶
🌳 | The 2 Conservative losses in Surrey tonight see them LOSE control of Surrey County Council. Elections were postponed in Surrey in 2025 due to local government reorganisation - electors will now vote in 2026 to the new shadow authority.

This is a truly moving, deeply powerful speech from @_Chris_Coghlan , Lib Dem MP for Dorking and Horley. I urge people, especially in Surrey, to watch this.
In a difficult speech today, I called for immediate reform of Surrey County Council's Children, Families, and Lifelong Learning department following its catastrophic and systemic negligence in the tragic deaths of 3 Surrey children: my constituent Jennifer Chalkley from Bookham, Oskar Nash, and Sara Sharif. Alongside fellow Surrey MPs @WillForster (Sara’s MP) and @AlPinkerton. One of Al’s constituents is at risk right from child suicide now which is why we spoke out today.

Surrey CC's (mostly Conservative) councillors were all elected in 2021. So many failures by SCC since then, and across the country ppl have turned from the Tories to others...being denied a local election vote in 2025 would be ridiculous.
It would be deeply undemocratic for Surrey’s Tory leadership to escape public scrutiny of their decisions by postponing elections under the guise of Labour’s local government reform #StopTheSteal #Surrey #LocalDemocacy bbc.com/news/articles/cwypqj…

Went to the Guildford Illuminate event in the grounds of Guildford castle this evening, with the family, and found it rather lovely. My pics don't really do it justice! Great event and well done to those who organised and ran it.

Great to join the launch event of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Fair Elections, campaigning for electoral reform in the UK. Proud to be part of a strong Liberal Democrat cohort contributing to this vital cross-party campaign.
