Incredibly proud to be part of a Stanford Lee lab project on the science of “I’ve been there”. The team discovered a brain circuit that enhances empathy in bystanders, when the bystanders have had a prior distressful experience similar to their partners’. science.org/doi/10.1126/scie…

In this new publication from the Lee lab, Kim et al look under the hood to investigate what happens in the #brain when we see our friends in distress. This research is important for understanding how #empathy can go awry in certain diseases.

#Alzheimer’s therapies targeting amyloid-β plaques have mostly failed. In this new Lee lab paper, the precise age & location of plaques greatly impacts the efficacy of any individual drug. It might be better to cover all bases by combining drugs.

Congratulations to my friend, colleague, and Lee lab member Dr. Ehsan Dadgar-Kiani @ehsan_dadgar for his successful PhD defense today. In this work, Ehsan managed to track and disrupt the progression of disease in a preclinical model of #Parkinsons.
