This weekend, I had that privilege.
Alan and his family invited me for a doubles match, on the same court where two bystanders, my crew from Palm Beach County Fire Rescue Station 49, and EMS Captain Darwin Zelaya, fought to bring him back.
They delivered 2 AED shocks, 1 standard shock, six rounds of Dual Sequential External Defibrillation, as well as amiodarone and esmolol, achieving ROSC before arrival at Delray Medical Center.
Alan also recorded a quick PSA for clinicians who still question whether
#DSED works.
Walking off that court, I couldnโt help but feel grateful. Grateful for the bystanders, the crew, the science, and for the chance to see a life fully reclaimed.
Thatโs the power of EMS.
