India's Biggest Therapy Area Is Cardiovascular Disease.
According to IQVIA TSA data (May 2026), the Cardiac therapy segment recorded sales of ₹3,196 crore (approximately US$375 million) in a single month, making it one of the largest therapy areas in India.
What's even more noteworthy is that the cardiac segment continues to show strong double-digit growth.
This raises an important question:
Are we doing enough to prevent cardiovascular disease?
The singular focus on just "cholesterol" needs to evolve. Cardiovascular disease is complex, and due importance should also be given to factors such as:
• Insulin resistance
• Type 2 diabetes
• Obesity
• Hypertension
• Fatty liver disease
• Chronic inflammation
Many of these conditions share a common metabolic foundation and often coexist long before a heart attack, stroke, or cardiac procedure occurs.
Perhaps the future of cardiology lies not only in better drugs and procedures, but also in better metabolic health.
The biggest therapy area in India may be telling us where the real health crisis lies.
