When blood sugar drops too low in mice, new nanocapsules release a drug that helps bring it back up. The advance might someday prevent severe hypoglycemia in diabetics, say @HeatherDMaynard@AndreaHevener and other @UCLA researchers in @ACSCentSci: brnw.ch/21wNtdK
ALT An illustration showing a needle injecting glucose-response micelles under the skin. An inactive version of the glucagon drug is sketched as blue spheres with inner red circles, and the active form of the drug is represented as multicolored squiggles.

The next #NOS2025 plenary speaker is @HeatherDMaynard of @uclachem. This is her first NOS talk and she is the 11th UCLA chemist to speak. Her research involves the synthesis and application of protein-polymer conjugates and smart materials. #returntotheroots
On Friday, the department hosted Professor @HeatherDMaynard from @uclachem. She spoke about her group's fantastic research in polymeric materials for human health. It was great to hear about all the advances and possibilities for the future!
[PMSE 100] PMSE Centennial Symposium "Celebration of Success and New Frontiers in Polymeric Materials Science and Engineering" to be held at the 2024 Spring ACS National Meeting, New Orleans, LA as part of the PMSE centennial celebration. #ACSSpring2024#PMSE100#polymer
Please drop by Young Hall 3096 tomorrow from 1-2pm for a casual meet-the-speaker event with OCDS seminar speaker, Professor Steven Townsend! Also, if you are a student interested in dinner with the speaker, please email lmcder@g.ucla.edu.
We also have an open position for #chemed researchers. If you are passionate about teaching/pedagogy research in biochemistry or chemistry, please apply for the Assistant Teaching Professor (tenure-track equivalent) position: recruit.apo.ucla.edu/JPF0883….
We are seeking candidates for the 2024-25 Boyer/Cram/Libby Teacher-Scholar program. This program provides teaching & research opportunities for Ph.D. grads (Ph.D. earned 2020-24). Apply here: recruit.apo.ucla.edu/JPF0884…@Chemjobber@uclaphyssci
We've launched a search for both Experimental and Computational/Theoretical faculty! Read more below & share with anyone in your network who may be interested. ⬇️🧪

Katie Rodriguez with @Caltrans9 has been championing the need for a series of wildlife crossings on 395 near Mammoth in the Eastern Sierra for years. This area is sadly a roadkill hotspot with many deer, bears, mountain lions and many more wildlife dying here every year from vehicle collisions. With a recent grant from the Wildlife Conservation Board, this project is off and running.

Our team (with @group_maynard and @houk1000) reports the development of the fastest known abiotic Cys bioconjugation enabled by organometallic Au(III) reagents. Rates are over 10^4 M^-1s^-1, which allows for rapid bioconjugation at picoM concentrations! See our preprint for more details: doi.org/10.26434/chemrxiv-20…. And DM me if you want to try any of these.
