It was our pleasure @ThatSillyGinge Josh, great to get a pilot’s perspective too

Today I was extremely fortunate to get a look around @HeathrowFire with @jumpjim and @CliffordAgius! A very impressive setup of two fire stations that cover the entirety of Heathrow Airport as well as certain off-site locations in the immediate vicinity.

Thanks @HeathrowFire for an excellent day out, and some really useful insights in to aircraft firefighting. They have some MOST excellent toys to play with as well 😁. This is a @RosenbauerUK Panther HRET (High Reach Extendable Turret), able to reach those places other fire engines cannot. As well as the fire fighting turret the boom is also fitted with a thermal imaging camera. Your standard high street fire engine carries approx. 1800L of water.. This thing carries 11,200 litres and can dispense the whole lot in 2 minutes at approx 20 bar pressure 😳 You can see that @CliffordAgius and @ThatSillyGinge aren’t enjoying themselves at all… #avgeek #avgeeks

The good thing about working with @HeathrowFire is that I get to see their new equipment before most others 😏 #avgeek #avgeeks #aviation #Heathrow

Fun flying tonight and nice to see @HeathrowFire on local standby near the runway @HeathrowAirport ready to pounce if we get it wrong. Thanks to the awesome @LHRDirector controllers for thier support and hard work bit if a coaster ride down the approach in the worst of the winds.

Agree @CliffordAgius very visual example of how to evacuate, undoubtedly one of the reasons for no fatalities on the A350, along with the competence of the flight deck and cabin crew #welldonejal
I think all airlines should have this very important safety info in the video it no doubt helped save lives yesterday. No bags taken off and everybody off safely. Well done @JALairlines

A few asking about the mention of the Firefighter Safety Maxim that was mentioned yesterday and a possible answer as to why the FF’s were “standing around not doing much” See photo- no life risk, no risk to Ff safety

Aim would be to extinguish fire with foam however if there’s no life risk, fire service likely to go into “defensive mode” therefore not risking the safety of the firefighters. If there were saveable life then some risk would be taken. It’s called the firefighter safety maxim.

@HeathrowFire … Any chance you could elaborate on what the aims of the fire suppression are?

Hence why comments of “standing around” With the aircraft severely damaged by fire, there would also be risk on collapse hence why defensive ( knowing all pax and crew accounted for) firefighting taking place- without being there hard to know but assuming from videos
