Surprise feeder on Holwell NR Snowdrops today Common Drone Fly Eristalis tenax. Females often emerge from Winter Hibernation late February, whilst Snowdrops usually release Nectar to Pollinators at 10 degrees, it was just 8 today! @HoverflyLagoons@WildlifeTrusts#InsectThursday
A most pleasant Garden surprise. Spring varieties of Batman Hoverfly Myathropa florea tend to be dull Black and Orange, Summer varieties however are noted for being extremely Bright Yellow. Changes diet late Summer to Brambles & Ivy @HoverflyLagoons@WildlifeTrusts@WoodlandTrust
