You're one of my heroes, @serenawilliams, so it's hard to see you so far out of touch w/ the realities faced by the majority of Americans. The US has very little protections for people who rent vs many protections for landlords. The US has also been criminalizing homelessness.
The success of every woman should be the inspiration to another. . .

A call to action for @serenawilliams & all high-wealth individuals: Unless you fully grasp the current state of homelessness, poverty, criminalization, lack of resources, harmful stigmas, outdated/racist zoning laws, DO NOT GIVE FINANCIAL ADVICE or speak on the "American Dream."

Finally, calls to action for the rest of us: Do not listen to $$$ advice from people w/ financial security far greater than your own. Research. Read multiple sources. Inform yourself. Together, we can protect ourselves & others from the harms of trusting what elites advise.

The unity in our country after this tragic day was beautiful to be part of. I felt proud to call myself an American & believed the US was the greatest country in the world. In 2024, as an unhoused mom living firsthand how our country treats humans, I just feel heartbroken. ๐Ÿ’”

I lost another childhood friend recently Nick was 37 y/o & healthy He worked out, didnโ€™t do drugs, & had no chronic conditions Yet, his death, like many others, was heart-related He died on a hike in Patapsco State Park - a place I've always loved, now a place full of grief

We badly need to decouple the belief that wealth means someone is a good, smart or inherently valuable person.

#Courage is a value. We should all adopt it. Why? Bc being #brave gets stuff done. Being brave inspires others to get stuff done. #justice

IDK about you, but increased police surveillance does NOT give me a sense of safety. Rather, it does the exact opposite. Addressing the root causes of the community's lack of sense of safety, such as a severe lack of places to live, is far better than added surveillance.
How does increased surveillance improve the public's sense of safety? Increased investments in housing, education, healthcare, community progs, etc, lead to long-term improvements in public safety & community well-being - not additional surveillance by the police or government.

Laws criminalizing sleeping outside or in your car, esp. when no shelter is available, are cruel & inhumane. Also cruel are people like this person, so full of hate that they seemingly get off on the suffering of others. When did people forget that other people are also people?
We exist too you clown. We arenโ€™t putting up with your bullshit any more. You canโ€™t play by the rules weโ€™ll find you a place to existโ€ฆ..jail

Many people who are homeless do not struggle with addiction or mental illness. Among many other reasons, homelessness is the result of a housing crisis, outdated zoning laws, lack of renter protections, no limit to corporate housing - not just being in a "self-destructive loop."

Vinod, you are a good human being. Thank you. ๐Ÿ™ It's easy blame homeless for their circumstances but many are a product of their environment, addiction, mental health (what's the Venn diagram?). At some point it stops being a choice for many, stuck in a self-destructive loop.

Simply stated: criminalizing homelessness does not end homelessness and is more expensive. My kids & I have been unhoused for over FOUR YEARS now, as I work to increase my credit & income - & despite improving both, there's now such a lack of housing, there's nowhere to go.

Prison for these "homelessness criminals" will be far more expensive for society just as lack of basic medical care forces much more expensive care in our emergency rooms who have to take all comers. Homeless people, down on their luck, often temporarily, have to go somewhere.
