Tune-in to @WMO at 2pm CET for the launch of their #StateofClimate report on climate & health action. #IPCC’s Synthesis Report identified the increase of the days per year where heat-humidity poses risks to human health without additional adaptation. bit.ly/SRYRpt23

Personally I won’t rate a postdoc who has been in the same position for 4-5 years. Think outside the box. You are experts in your fields.

The last bar on the right represents the temperature anomaly wrt pre-industial for the month of September 2023. Words can't easily convey how abnormally large this is: by far the warmest September on record; no other month ever reached anomalies as large. @CopernicusECMWF

Unofficial records suggest that in recent days the global average temperature was the warmest that has ever been directly measured. What does that mean? 🧵

🌡️ Every increment of warming results in rapidly escalating hazards. More intense heatwaves, heavier rainfall & other weather extremes further increase risks for human health & ecosystems. Read more from #IPCC's Synthesis Report ➡️ bit.ly/SRYRpt23

One of our most stark findings in the recent IPCC report is that humans are the cause of pretty much all observed warming. Natural forcings alone would have led to flat or slightly cooling temps, and multidecadal variability is unlikely to play a major role in modern warming.

Most of the recent literature suggest closer to 2.6 or 2.7C under current policies. But the reason the IPCC value is a bit high is that it’s summarizing all the current policy scenarios over the past 5 years, which misses some progress made. Here are more recent studies:
