In Memoriam | Prof. Jaydip Barman
It is with profound sadness that the IIT Kharagpur community mourns the passing of Prof. Jaydip Barman, former Professor and Head, Department of Architecture and Regional Planning.
An esteemed academician, mentor, and distinguished alumnus of IIT Kharagpur (MCP, 1986; PhD, 2004), Prof. Barman joined the Institute as a faculty member in 1987 and dedicated nearly four decades to advancing education, research, and institutional development. His scholarly contributions in the fields of architecture, interior design, and urban design enriched the academic landscape and influenced generations of students and professionals.
A passionate teacher and thoughtful guide, Prof. Barman inspired his students to engage critically with the built environment while fostering creativity, social responsibility, and design excellence. Beyond his academic achievements, he was deeply respected for his humility, generosity, and unwavering commitment to the Institute and its community.
His enduring legacy will continue to inspire future generations of architects, planners, and scholars.
